As I am playing Garry's mod, I am playing in a server involving around +60 people, however as I am playing I start to lag game-wise, as in the sounds repeat and it's frozen, then out of no where the screen disappears but I can still hear myself walking and doing things, the only option is to exit and lose all my progress, and just to experience it again.
I did these steps however
Re-install Garry's mod(Re-downloading all the content and deleted the folder and .gcf)
Re-installed my graphics driver(Also gives me a balloon on my driver has crashed and recovered)
Ran Antivirus Scan, no positive results.
Rebooted the Computer
None of these have fixed it.
Please help me fix it, it's almost unplayable
This happens to me on TF2, this happened to me because my Nvidia card crashed. Maybe update your graphics card or get a newer one.
Servers involving that many players would easily lag if the hoster doesn't have a great CPU for the dedicated server it's hosted on or the +tickrate is higher than 33 or 16. (GModTheater uses 16 because they support so many players).
To see if it's you or the server, you have to enable a small and very helpful feature source based games have. To enable it, write net_graph 5 into console. (I know that net_graph 5 is a bit annoying sometimes, but live with it until you can solve the problem)
When you join the server, you will see a big box in the bottom right corner, and on the very bottom of it you can see a BLUE line. When some RED staples appear there, the SERVER lags. You can also monitor the "sv". If the numbers after sv turns yellow/red, the server lags aswell. You can also see your FPS in there, so if it lags on your end, your FPS would probably turn to a very low value like 1-10.
If it's the server that lags:
Remember the normal "sv" the server runs on (Default 66, might use 33 or 16).
If it's 66 I would recommend you to tell the server owner to add this to his commandline: +tickrate 33.
If it's 33, tell him to change it to +tickrate 16. (Almost no noticeble impact on the server will occur by changing this).
If it's 16, then there's nothing to do about it, cause you really don't want to go under 16.¨
(If the owner changes this, it will highly increase the gaming experience.)
If it's your FPS that's dropping:
First off, give me your network speed by visiting this site: Speedtest (A server with alot of players on send a quite big amount of network data to the clients.)
Try these solutions:
1. Lower the graphics settings.
2. Turn on "Multicore Rendering" in the graphic settings.
3. Uninstall unused software and software that comes by default with your computer.
4. Update your drivers (Go ahead and tell me what specs you have and I'll find the official upgrade for you. Example: Gainward GeForce 560Ti.)
5. Turn off any background processes that you don't want to be on and do a malware scan. Temporarily install this: Malwarebytes Free Anti-Malware Software and then uninstall it when you are finished with it.
6. Cleanup your computer and registry by using this: CCLEANER (Note: This will remove all your browser history and cookies if you don't turn that off) [This is highly recommended to do and keep the program installed and use it as often as possible!]
7. If none of the above works, tell me ALL your computer specs.
8. As a last resort, reformat your computer to factory settings and do the 3rd step again.
Hopes this helps you out!
EDIT: Actually, after reading your post again, it's hardly the server who's at fault.
