Cant join same server if my friend is on same network

Whenever I have a friend over we will be playing on a garry's mod server for an hour or so then all of the sudden we cant be on the same server. If I am on the server and he joins then I disconnect as if the server is crashing and then i cant get back in. If I try to join it just says "Connecting to server" at 2 bars done and doesn't load any more. Is anyone having this problem or have a fix for it?
EDIT: Now it will disconnect me even when I'm playing alone on a server. I'm genuinely confused...
Sounds like you two might be having some conflicts with having the same IP. I don't know why this would be the case after an hour of playing, unless your router is just overloaded by that point. We had some issues like that with our old router when we were all trying to play minecraft over wireless. Our router just couldn't take it. Try playing over LAN and see if that helps?

I think you're right, I did some research and that seems like the problem but now it'll disconnect me even if he isn't over at my house.
Weird, what kindof router are you using? I had a cisco router awhile back, and anytime I did some gaming for a prolonged period of time even on LAN, it would literally crash the router. Try searching to see if anyone has had some similar issues, when your internet goes down run in and check the status of your router/modem. I've even had routers before that have rebooted my modem under stress.

And it isnt shutting down, it just kicks the person who was on the server when the other person joined.
