[URGENT] Everytime I join a server.. (brought back, never answered)
14 replies, posted
.. So, for a long time(and I have already posted this issue a WHILE ago, no one answered or fixed the bug), everytime I join a server, I get connection problems. I used to be able to play servers like Static Servers DarkRP, but now, everytime I join this server, I get Connection Problems. It happens with many other servers as well. I play on a server named AuroraRP, it is the only server I know that doesn't crash on me. I'm really tired of getting mad and stressed when I join a server and spawn, and then see : Connection Problems - Disconnecting in 50.0 seconds. Recently, I joined this very new server that I have not played on and DOWNLOADED AND MOUNTED EVERY ADDON and then joined, spawned and got connection problems. This proves its not the servers, It's my game. PLEASE HELP!!! THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON MY GARRYS MOD FOR OVER 3 MONTHS!!!
Have you tried temporarily disabling your firewall to test if that's the issue?
^ Do that, and then try reinstalling GMod if that does not work. Try removing every addon, try deleting the entire GMod folder, then reinstalling, try asking each server owner where it is hosted, if you see a pattern, Aurora, let's say, has one in the Netherlands, and there's a few common server hosting spots (any place/s here) which give you connection problems, there you go. Also, make sure your internet is average, having a mediocre internet which cuts out would cause that stuff.
Don't ask why I didn't say that first, I type things as they come to mind.
Hmm, Is your internet ok? Have you reinstalled the game?
Okay so heres what I did :
I disabled my Norton Firewall until system restart. (yes i know norton is fucking shit)
I went to my steam/steamapps/common/GarrysMod and then deleted the uncapitalized garrysmod folder in the GarrysMod folder.
Then I went to my Steam Library, clicked Garry's Mod Properties and Verified Garry's Mod Integrity, it replaced all my older files, right? and then I unsubscribed to everything I had originally subscribed to before, so Garry's Mod Workshop would not install it again.
I joined a server, but still connection problems.
BUT THIS WAS WEIRD!!!
I dont have CSS or DoD textures, so I had them installed, illegally i guess. I joined a server, it joined FINE. THEN! I added back the textures (CSS and DoD) and joined the SAME server. I had connection problems..
Can someone please give me correct uninstallation and reinstallation steps?
Are the textures causing the problem?
Don't use illegal textures; actually buy the games.
I have this same problem but I have all the games, I dont download textures.
Any help?

Check your firewall and antivirus.
Guys its not firewall, its the server list refreshing. Just connect from Steam browser or something until we get it fixed.

It's not just that; my Windows Firewall used to block connecting too, even when I had made an exception. Every time I start Garry's Mod, I have to run a script that disables Windows Firewall and enables my antivirus firewall.

WTF is wrong with your PC setup? Their state should save, so you only need to do that once.
FreezeBug's VERY BIAS but functional GarrysMod guide to connection problems!
1: Do you have a firewall enabled?
A: Yes I do. Go to question #3
B: No I don't. Go to question #2.
2: Do you have a virus protection service installed EX: McAffee, Norton, Webroot, etc.
A: I do. go to question #4
B: I do not. Go to question #6
3: Try disabling your firewall, did this solve your problem?
A: Yes it did! Thank you!
B: No it didn't - Go to question #2
4: Which of the following antivirus programs do you have installed? (Any known to cause connection problems are listed below)
A: Avast - This is not generally known to cause issues, however, in any case, select the AVAST! Icon on your taskbar, right click -> Sheilds control -> Disable all sheilds. If this doesn't work, try temporarily uninstalling it.
B: AVG - Disable AVG, or uninstall, restart your machine and attempt to reconnect.
C: Norton - Completely uninstall anything to do with norton (Highly recomended) , replace with something else. (Its not like its helping you anyways)
D: Panda - Try disabling panda antivirus temporarily, then attempt to connect to a server. If this doesn't work, try uninstalling panda antivirus, then re-installing if your issues do not cease, in any other case, find an alternative.
E: MCAffee - why do you have this, this application barely functions, much less barely passes for network / computer security. Uninstall immediately.
F: Webroot - Try disabling webroot antivirus under "Options", or in other versions "tools". If this does not cease, uninstall it temporarily.
G: ESet - Uninstall temporarily, as there is no way to disable this antivirus.
5: Did this solve your issue?
A: Yes it did! - Re-install your antivirus of choice.
B: No it did not, go to question #6
6: Are you using any of the following internet providers?
* Comcast
* DSL (256K connection)
* Charter
A: Yes, I am. -- These ISP's are generally known not to be strong enought to sustain a decent connection for "gaming". This is most likely the cause of your issue, however, you can continue to question #8 if you'd like.
B: No, I am not. Go to question #8.
7: Go to this website, http://www.speedtest.net/ . Take the speedtest, is the "Down Speed" LESS THAN 8.
A: Yes it is. -- If your network contract dictates higher speeds, contact your ISP and notify them that there are issues in your area,
B: No it is not -- Im sorry, I've asked all of the questions I can think of, and it seems your issue is not solved.
8: Are any of the following applications running?
* BitTorrent
* UTorrent
* K-Torrent
* BItLet
* Anything else with "Torrent" or "Download" in its name.
A: Yes! -- Close these applications, go to question #9.
B: No, sorry. Go to question #7.
9: Did this solve your issue?
A: Yes it did, thank you.
B: No it did not, go to question #7

Just letting you know, if you have norton installed, its MOST LIKELY your issue.
I agree, when I bought my new computer what I'm using now (Alienware Aurora) I had Norton security with it, it was stopping me for accessing the internet. Try completely uninstalling Norton and try then reset your router.
Also I recommend if you do attempt in anyway to delete your Garry's Mod files DO A BACKUP FOLDER! this will save you hours of time!

How do I just shut down Norton instead of uninstalling it?I dont want to uninstall it because my dad bought it for me and I feel like he'd be pretty mad if I uninstalled it.
