Today avast! picked up a core file for Garry's Mod as a potential threat and decided to block and delete it.
figured this would be the right place to put this thread.. if not just move it
I figured out how to fix the issue. This is how:
Open up avast!and click on "File system shield"
Click on stop and stop it for 10 minutes.
On that same window, right next to the stop button, click settings.
On the window that pops up, on the left hand side click exclusions.
Click the 'Add' button and locate the file "lua_shared.dll" \Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\bin\
For example, mine is C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\bin\lua_shared.dll
With all boxes next to the directory ticked, click "OK" in and the window will close.
One more thing with avast!.. On the avast! main window, click settings up in the top right.
On the window that appears, click on "Global Exclusions" on the left hand side.
Click "Add" and type the same directory (E.G. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\bin\lua_shared.dll) and then hit OK.
Start up your File System shield again and then open up your game library on Steam.
Right click on Gmod - properties - local files and click 'verify integrity of game cache'
Let it do it and you're done!
