Hello facepunch community. I am having a problem in Garry's Mod where whenever I make a server, my friends cannot join, but will get stuck at "Retrieving Server Info" indefinitely.
This is the third time ever that this has happened to my server. The first time, somehow it was caused by a weapon pack, second, by SCars, but third, I'm not sure. How I knew those addons caused this bug, I didn't (initially). I had to turn on and off every single one of my addons and keep remaking the server until I eventually found the addon that wouldn't let my friends join.
The only hint I'm given is in the console feed of my friends, where the final thing posted before the infinite loop is "Netchannel: unknown net message (55) from [MY IP].
I would just try to find the addon glitching the server this time, but it is very time-consuming and I want to know why these certain addons are doing this. The addons that apparently do this are not linked to server mechanisms at all and it seems more like a lua plague of sorts instead of just bad coding, because the addons affected never did this in the past, and they were never updated.
My questions are, what does "unknown net message (55)" mean? Is there any reason why these certain addons would just do this all the sudden? And is it possible to fix this instead of having to find the infected addon and disabling/removing it?
Thanks,
"Seaal" Cox
It may not be related to the "Retrieving Server Info" issue, but setting the "sv_parallel_packentities" and "sv_parallel_sendsnapshot" ConVars both to 0 should stop the "unknown net message" issues.

Am I supposed to put them in in some special way? Because I set the ConVars to 0 before creating the server, but they still receive the error in the console. Also, the Retrieving Server Info loop bug still happens.
Also, I changed the title to be more appropriate with the problem since the Netchannel error may not be connected to the issue.
Is this a LAN server? Are you using software like Hamachi to host for your friends?
Can you try the Dev Branch and see if it works there? Are you trying to start a LAN server or a normal listen server?

It does not work switching to the Dev Branch. "Retrieving Server Info" still loops and the Netchannel error still persists.

The server is not lan and I am not using Hamachi. I use Port Mapper to port forward my server.

I went along to see if manually installing the affected addons would work (not thru workshop with the .gma files, but with the normal method of putting the addon file in the addons folder), which still didn't work, so it's not a workshop error, but rather the addons themselves. The questions still persist though, which are why this would happen, when for so long, they worked just fine.
I found another culprit to the disease, a jeep replacement...
Does no one have a solution?
