Downloaded Garry's Mod files not appearing in ingame files.

Hi.

For a while now I've had issues with downloaded files not appearing in the browse folder for Garry's Mod.

Workshop files work fine when downloaded, but they are the only files I can actually download for Garry's Mod ingame. Otherwise, files downloaded on Facepunch or Garrysmod.org
do not appear ingame no matter what I do.

This problem has only started happening recently, and since then there has been no major update or changes that I've made to my Garry's Mod folder besides reinstalling the game and deleting local content. Downloading non-workshop files has not worked since then.

I download files and extract them using the merge method (taking folders such as "models" and "materials" out of the RAR download and merging them with the same folders in the Garrysmod folder.) And they do not appear in the Garry's Mod folder ingame.

I have tried to validate Garry's Mod files, which fixed nothing. Reinstalling the game has not fixed the problem either, but if I am suggested to reinstall it again, I will try.

Is this problem common? If so, can someone please help? Thanks.

You shouldn't merge them. Add them as addons
