I bought Gmod on Friday on steam and haven't been able to play at all. Oriionally the game would load and i would be on the menu for a few seconds and then i would get the Blue Screen Of Death and my computer would restart. Now the game doesn't even load up and my com outer Restarts with the BSOD.
(Team Fortress is working and all other games are working)
I've tried:
Re installing the game
Setting launch options to (-dxlevel81,) (-dxlevel80) and (-dxlevel81 -length ____ -width ____)
Verify integrity of game cache
And a few other things but i can't remember
My specs are pretty decent, everything up to date, my friends have worse specs in every aspect and they are able to play, i also play Skyrim with an ENB with no lag, i have sufficient RAM.
errm..
Desktop
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
1920 x 1080
I realize that BSOD is Layman's terms.
Thankyou :D
Post the BSOD Screen.

Ok, get BlueScreenView and open latest .mdmp file ( It will automatically show the list ) and post a picture of the information.
For example:

You can also search the internet for the STOP code and look for solutions.

Ok, let's get things straight:
1) It's not caused by your rig
2) Doesn't seem to be caused by GMod
3) Seems to be caused by a malfunctioning driver, try updating video card drivers, if that doesn't help, try downgrading your drivers.

Thanks bro, i'll try it and post the results

Unfortunately it didn't work, i really appreciate the help though man... Any other ideas?
Sound drivers, and networking drivers / settings can cause BSOD ( My PC used to freeze for the longest time any time I tried streaming to twitch, transferred data to networked pc, etc.. until I found a solution )...
Networking settings ( Asus P5K board; check which network chip is used and see if you're using the same one to determine if you need this fix, or if your pc locks up / bsod when transferring files to networked pc or lockup / bsod on stream ): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26074909/_utilities/fixes/Network%20lockups%20on%20pc.txt
Disable reboot on BSoD: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26074909/_utilities/registry_tweaks/disable_auto_reboot_on_bsod_on_winxp_win7.reg
Ok i have some development, i just bought Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam and i'm having the exact same problem with this game.. i'm not getting the problem with games i installed before GMod such as skyrim, Rome 2 and team fortress. I downloaded GMod on Friday 24th of October, is this now an issue with Steam? if so could it be an update that happened prior to me installing GMod?

Sounds basic, but make sure all your cables and firmly plugged in.
It does sound basic but the help is appreciated, and yes they are all plugged in, especially now xD
I had the same exact problem with source games and it turned out to be my cpu failing on me.
Not trying to scare you but that might be your problem, if you have any other computers try switching out parts and see if you can trouble shoot that way.
I don't have any other computers :/
I'm so scared
it works on my Laptop but my Laptop is painful to use
from mi concluson it is becos u infectid gmod wit a watchdogs viris from th game, i sugest u go on watchdog game and disabl virus
If it still isn't solved, give us a dxdiag of your rig so we can see full specs. Do you know what board you're running?
Sound drivers are one thing that can cause BSoD like no tomorrow. Typically if it is them, you'll hear sound distorting before it happens but it isn't guaranteed.
CPU going bad has very strange symptoms and is very rare, not necessarily BSoD so most likely not that.
Memory could be going bad, download Windows Mem Tester, Ultimate BootCD or some ISO that you can boot from to test your memory. Test 1 stick at a time, 1 slot at a time, if one stick passes, put it in each other slot. Let the test run for 2-4 hours minimum, usually good to let it run overnight, because memory typically fails, if it is bad, when it is hot; doing a burn in over many hours will guarantee whether or not it is the problem.
Power Supply; not many thing of this, but it is like a glorified light bulb. They go bad fairly often, there is a higher chance that it has gone bad if you're not running a UPS ( uninterruptible power supply; large battery pack which ensures your pc gets constant voltage and saves issues that happens during brown-outs [ under voltage ] and power surges [ over-voltage, but damage during surge is much less common than with brown-outs ]. Power supplies don't always just die and leave you unable to boot. Sometimes they degrade leaving some leads slightly out of range, or not working at all. It may still let you boot up, but BSoD can be from bad power supply too.
There are a LOT of things to look at when diagnosing a pc to determine whether or not a problem is hardware or software related, and if hardware which component( s ), and if software which drivers / software. You can generally get a good idea, if you're experienced, within a short time-frame unless you need to burn in the memory or hard-drive as those are time consuming ( autonomous though ).
So, questions..
Did the BSoD start happening recently or was the problem always there? With the other game, same or not? What motherboard are you running, what type of memory, what processor, what power supply, what case, is there foam behind the motherboard in the case ( believe it or not, some foam that mbds ship with conduct electricity and I've seen a number of builds where the person put the foam in the computer which caused all sorts of problems from grounding issues to fried circuits ), are the front usb/audio extensions plugged in to the board, when a cd is in the drive or when you open / close the drive do you hear any noises over speakers / headset, do you have a modem in your computer, etc...
Answer those as best you can, give us the dxdiag ( Win + R > dxdiag > Save to txt > pastebin / post it ), be specific on when it started or if it was always there, etc...
If you're running Asus P5K, I have it too and there are some serious issues that happen if the networking drivers aren't configured a specific way which causes the pc to lock up / BSoD when streaming, transferring data in the network, lan, etc... ( took a long time to figure that one out; no drivers solved that issue, it needed to be totally reconfigured ).

Yes, it started happening on the 24th of October, and any games i've downloaded since then have caused BSOD
A recent development last night cam when i downloaded Banished, forgetting that this was a problem i went to play it.. sure enough i got blue screen.. i then persisted to update JAVA and my NVIDIA Drivers, after this i had success! and was able to play GMod and Banished for the first time!i shut down for the night and when i turned on my PC this morning i loaded up Banished and all of a sudden i get the BSOD again, right in the same place i always do (when i get onto the menu or during the load up), i then tried to update My drivers again but they are up to date from last night when i fixed it. so now i'm back at square one... but the brief fix i had surely means something?
I'll try and find answers to your questions soon enough
