Do you own Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Episode 2, or Counter-Strike: Source? Garry's Mod requires most of the textures from those games.
As mentioned on the store page you gotta have Counter-Strike: Source owned in Steam, installed on your PC and mounted in Garry's Mod.

Well download it and mount it in GMod. If that doesn't help, chances are you are missing custom content the server needs.

Alternatively, you can go to your steam folder, which is something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike" or
"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike", select and copy the Models, Materials, and Sound folders, and paste them in the Garry's Mod folder, which should be the same location, except go to "Garry's Mod" instead of the "Counter-Strike Source" folder.

Post your PC specs (DXDiag) and console log.
One thing that I've seen trip people up: Make sure that you've started Counter-Strike: Source at least once.

Whyyy RobotBoy whyyy dumb? Is this not a requirement? When I've freshly installed CS:S or TF2 I've had to start the game before it would show as mountable in GMod.
Uh textures that are packed in gmod by default (the damn grass) and some of the plants (also packed in gmod by default) are erroring. This isn't the case of him needing irrelevant games.
