Just like discord, it could help for people to know where they are talked about them or asked something. Mods and admins could also have @everyone so we all get a notification

This works but this not: @Hezzy
Try writing Hezzy without quoting me and see if that works
Just because you replied my post I got the notification but lets see if Hezzy works
Nope
well then that's the suggestion for @Garry inb4 banned for mentioning like on discord
I'd prefer if it just notified you if someone said your name, instead of all this @ stuff I don't think that looks good for a forum
What about people with very common names, such as Max? Any time we mention Max of S2d, or Max von Sydow, etc, they'd get pointed out. Prefacing with a @ just helps cut down the accidental pinging.
Yeah, the only problem this would have is that I'm going to get fucked by notifications Bring it on!
It's not my fault you guys picked bad usernames
Next idea, you could still use an at symbol for mentions, this could create a profile mention object within the quill delta. Which removes the @ from the aesthetic, but ends up still pinging the user. Shit could also have autocomplete. Going to admit I don't know shit about how Quill works, that's garry's shit to work with, but I suppose something like this could work out
that and also new people aren't gonna know this @ shit right off the bat so it'll just end up being barely used anyways. simple is better, even if it means I get mentioned everytime someone tasks about the postal service or postal 2
@Hezzy
I disagree - Twitch, Twitter and Discord, from my knowledge, all use the @ as a form of mentioning someone, so the precedence is there. It'd eventually just become second nature.
Do I have to get out the list of words with "ott" in them again?
No, I think that'd be rather OTT.
Saying @ and the username is pretty standard everywhere, and gives an autocomplete opportunity, so makes sense to do it that way.
yea it's possible i'm just biased since i've never used any of those until trying out discord just like a week ago lol. maybe it could work. well shit my days of getting accidentally mentioned on the ticker every time someone complains about their mail service may finally be over
twitch does not
Facebook uses @, it works great.
Haven't used fb in years, now that I remember it can't fucking quote myself, but I said it earlier, facebook does remove the tag symbol
Once you type out a valid name the @ could easily be removed an the name turned into a link to the users profile
Was thinking the same thing - looks so much cleaner. Is it possible to have a feature to show a preview of the profile for when you hover over the name aswell? Also, to avoid abuse, should the oify be part of the new forums, mute any notifications from mentions and replies in there.
garry is awesum
If people don't like to see the "@" next to their names in the post garry could simply make that when you mention someone using @ after posting it disappears but lefts the mention with some color change. Mods/Everyone could have a option to stop notifications from mentioning if they want. Another addition to this could be having a dropdown with names based on previous post replies because having a dropdown list with everyone on the forum could fuck performance up
Ah, I must be getting it mistaken with functionality that BetterTTV does - typing @ and will start bringing up the list of users as you type.
yeah nah yeah it's a thing, but it's really just more work tbh, it's completely optional... and by optional I mean not necessary
