Are there any proper roleplaying servers left on Garry's Mod or any roleplay left at all in that mat - Garry's Mod

The only way to get proper RP is to find a small group of friends and set up your own private RP server, Public RP died with GM9.

By the way I was wondering if anyone know a DarkRP server without "donate to play OMGHJQSOLHJOHI"

What are you talking about? Nobody is going to make something as intricate as a custom HL2RP for every server on Garrysmod. You can feel free to play on my server [B][STG] 64.31.40.17:27015[/B] It uses the base DarkRP that Gmod has grown to love just as 99% of all do (I also try to edited it a little at least a few times a week), but I try to keep admins and everything else in line without ruining all the fun. Note: I think Hl2RP is a bit boring. Any roleplay that is that serious jsut takes away the fun of gmod. Whats the point if you can't build custom bases or decorate your house?

Define Roleplay: Guns, Gangsters, Druglabs, Shipements. Nobody knows what real roleplay is anymore. Not the classic oviscity pizza shop and hometown computer shops.

Does anyone want me to set up like some GModRP on oviscity.

depends on what you're looking for, mate some people like taking the role of a fictional character and developing their personalities through a backstory framework and current events (traumatic or otherwise). Some people like taking strolls around town, selling melons in a home-made hobo melon shack, and doing generally silly, funny things. Still, others like gang wars and firefights. Whatever it takes to entertain you, y'know?

It doesn't have to slow, it doesn't have to be detailed, it doesn't have to be passive or realistic. If I wanted to say I was a super space marine, it would be roleplay. Is it realistic? No. Is it technically possible? No. But I'm still taking that role and playing it out. I'm sick of everyone assuming that if a server doesn't follow set guidelines it isn't roleplay.

Most of my rp recently has been with a close group and the server was up and down for a year or so before it split. It was fucked over mainly because the guy who owned the server was an idiot.

RP is generally boring if you're not allowed to deviate and screw around. That's just my two cents and feel free to throw boxes at me. I like ExiledServers for this reason. Nothing's serious or "proper", but if someone's stupid they get blacklisted. Roleplay is for roleplaying without calling it serious, but it's not nearly as active as Lite.

The problem with most passive RP servers is that there is either no people on, or the people just stand in one spot/dont do anything.

I play this server "Orange Catalyst Roleplay". Its an alright server. Yea there is the minges that come on every now and then and all that shit but its pretty much RP if you want it to be. Cops actually do there job (Most of the time) and it has a good community. I think the population of proper role playing servers is little to none. Role play nowadays has too many restrictions and very few goals for characters. By goals, I mean something like a fight between factions and one faction eventually wins (Not something like getting the best armor). On the topic of restrictions, I personally think it'd be cool to see something like rebels overthrowing a Combine Nexus in HL2RP at the cost of canon accuracy. People give a shit more about canon than the actual role play itself these days. I miss the old days of semi-serious role play where you can have a small cold spreading around town then have to eventually evacuate to a space ship because the cold turns into something dangerous. The role play situations turn out to be much more creative and interesting when you have no canon restrictions. Now to the topic of goals. Characters should be allowed to have some goals and be able to reach them eventually. We shouldn't be stuck in this infinite loop of talking to people or sitting in an apartment all day just waiting for our character's dreams to magically become true. Those are the reasons why I don't role play in Garry's Mod and why I don't think there is any proper role play whatsoever in the Garry's Mod community. If you're looking for role play, it's best of you do it privately or on another game.

Oh dear god this thread has made me nostalgic, not going into detail though. And roleplay as someone I would strive to be? I think a great roleplayer could roleplay with someone that exists parallel to your beliefs. Like in HellMOO I am a mentally insane person but in real life I'm not...

if you want good roleplay you need to find a non-serious server, find a relaxed server where everyone is relaxed yet they still develop there character, and they still live the life of their character. you'll never find it.

By the time I found out about Gmod, Gmod 10 was already out and Gmod 9 was empty. I never got to experience the old rp. :smith:
