I recently got a new monitor because my old one screwed up for some random reason. The resolution is 1600x900. I have problems getting a custom background for garry's mod with this resolution. I'm assuming garry's mod can't load custom pictures with this resolution, but i don't know why the hell it shouldn't. Normally, to get a custom background with the default resolution, you simply replace the background01.vtf in the garrysmod/garrysmod/materials/console with another background01.vtf picture and garrysmod loads it. Seeming as there is a background01_widescreen.vmt already in the folder, like there is a background01.vmt, i tried putting a background01_widescreen.vtf in there in the hope that it would load that as the widescreen background.
It doesn't.
:'(
Any help? Is getting a custom widescreen background possible?
Widescreen requires different files, like background01_widescreen.vtf, renaming won't work.
Here's a few:

Well, i knew it had to actually be a .vtf file. Sorry, i didn't make that clear. I don't understand why garrys mod doesn't load my .vtf file. :( Meh, oh well.
I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to take an image and make it my background. My resolution is 1680x800 (16:10)
I can get the background to work fine in 4:3 aspect ratio, but in 16:10 I see the default background. What do I need to do to get this to work?
same problem but:
1. gmod loading: standart bg
2. gmod loading with blue progress bar: my bg
3. gmod loaded, menu: standart bg
where i gone wrong ?
wait, in 1280x1024 my bg is working. but not on 1680x1050

Yeah, that's the problem; Nobody seems to know how to get custom backgrounds to work in 16:10 aspect ratios

I wish I can just have it like the old days.
Without more extra crap to do. Like
this installing another file for the file..
