To fix this error (where the games stops working with or without error message), do the following:
Go to your C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\Username\garrysmod\garrysmod \cfg
There you will find a file called Content.txt , open that file with notepad/wordpad.
and remove all the text inside it, and replace it with this.

Then save your file, close it, and simply start up your garry mod.
End of story for today, when valve releases a fix for it, simply go to your garry mod.
in the menu you get at the beginning , when you first start up your garry mod.
you will find something called: Gmod settings.
and there you can enable all your games back on.
*for now, if you enable Team fortress 2 also, your garry mod will no longer work*

Double click steam icon bottom right > my games > delete TF2 Content
then
put the txt from his post in the content.txt file and it works i just did it now my gmod is working :D thanks owner u iz cool
If you enable team fortress 2= you crash.
so no, we have to WAIT on valve to fix the issue.
in the meantime we can play garry mod with the fix, but without team fortress 2.

What I was saying was, if you had Episode 2 unmounted for a reason, you can go in and unmount it again. I was saying this because the script mounts every GCF EXCEPT TF2. I had the Episodes unmounted for disk space reasons.

Yeah mine still isn't working either
This should be sticky'd (or pinned, or whatever it is on this forum).
That way, the people looking for help that didn't realize the problem was TF2 related and/or don't know how to unmount something without loading GMod won't make threads.
I predict that will lower the threads made on the topic by about 10-25% (most people CBF to look at sticky'd threads, but still. Better than nothing.)

Problem with that though is that most people can't even get to the menu to un-mount tf2.
