• The Fall of McBuilds

I come with a story, a sad one at that, a tale of deceit and a tale of loss. Some of these events told within may not be entirely true and are open to clarification if necessary. The Fall of McBuilds Once upon a time, In a server far far away... A community of builders and coders lived in harmony building massive space faring vessels that spanned the skies. This land was that of the Mcbuild Spacebuild servers. During a time of peace the land was ruled by the all powerful and all seeing admin "John" and his faithful. Owner of said servers, John recruited the best and brightest of those around him to develop addons of all types that would come to revolutionize spacebuild. Ship Cores, laser weapons and custom models were all mcbuild exclusive, and players would flock to the servers to use these addons. Ship cores revolutionized space combat, as now a ship could take tremendous damage, and yet not lose a critical prop. A thriving community was started and they organized in a singe forum. A haven for advanced creation, mcbuilds boasted many coders, many of which showed only the surface of their skills in advanced expression 2 chips. John and his trusted few ruled the servers with an iron fist but they were not without reason. However, Players new to wire were not very well respected by the coders, mocked for lag generating creations, mcbuilds primary audience was that of the wiremod sector of the garry's mod community. Mcbuilds lasted for months as a thriving community of like minded builders, but a conflict from within would soon lead to a war of the servers within the community. A blow from within soon sealed the fate of the mcbuild servers. While all was well for many months peace existed between the admins, players, and the all seeing eye of John. One of the faithful would soon betray the hand that fed him. In the last few months of activity in the land of mcbuilds, admins swept with little patience and nothing of value to lose, banned dozens of people they did not like, leaving only a small group of people left playing on the servers. The community fled, only maintaining on the forum, left the servers and all their creation behind them. Admins were the only ones left playing on the server, and they turned on eachother. With the community gone, the admins went to war. Was it over one too many kills? a dispute over who made what? who knows what small event sparked the war that would end a shining community. Greed took over, admins demanded "godlike" priveliges in exchange for the addons that the server was using. Threataning John that they would take back their code if their wishes were not granted. Many of these addons were community projects with no specific owner. When admins went to war and bickered over who owned what, John intervened, with a flood of bans, the old admins were swept away, only those truly faithful remained. A clean fix and a fresh start seemed to work, but soon would be proved very broken. Planted as a last resort, one of the faithful, steevoo had autobanning scripts and viruses planted throughout the addons and server files. A cancer that would self replicate soon held the servers within an inch of their lives. It would be weeks before John and a few others would have cut away the cancer and restarted the servers, to no avail. For months after the bombs fell, mcbuilds suffered a lack of players and lack of interest, with the community long gone, mcbuilds was left to die. A few visionaries stayed true, those that remained faithful. they attempted to rebuild the servers, remake the desert in their own image. But the substance taht would enable such, the glorious addons, were leaked by one of the fallen faithful in the last weeks of the land. John, the almighty admin, lacked drive to continue the fight against those who would seek to destroy all he had built. The fallen ones relentlessly attacked the servers with DDOS attacks and hacking. When John scattered the servers to the wind, those who remained faithful faded away, keeping with them the secrets of the addons and the vision they shared. Mcbuilds faded into the dust, riddled with holes from the corrupt and poisened by the worst of the internet community, A shining beacon in the dark sea of mingery and destruction, shone no more. Perhaps one day the vision of the faithful will be fulfilled, but it will be a long time before that may come to pass. Story said and done, it is a sad day in garrysmod when a server dies, what are your thoughts?
Wow, I never knew McBuilds was filled with such rife, I haven't been on in months. I used to frequent the mighty land of McBuilds very often, and I created some amazing vessels. Definitely a sad tale to hear so close to Christmas. I hope the servers will one day resurface.
Never heard of McBuilds until now, but I still feel bad for them. :frown:
They sound like a bunch of circlejerking, wiremod elitists. Thank god they disappeared, we don't need shit like that making this game more unbearable. Edit: Ahaha, thanks for the laugh whosdr, all your arguments supporting wire will now go out the window if you really think these idiots aren't wiremod elitists. You know I don't hate wire, but I do hate elitism, so what is there to disagree with?
I know mcbuilds, nothing of value was lost I say.
And thats why you should never try to follow Pulsar Effects examples
:munch:ing on drama threads. It looks like that every GMod community is bound to fall after some time.
They sound like a bunch of circlejerking, wiremod elitists. Thank god they disappeared, we don't need shit like that making this game more unbearable.
Exactly this.
Exactly this.
I'm "newer" to gmod(340 hours) and I definitely know these kind of people. If your into being one of them, the Build Server "The Haven" is known by me for its douchebagery when they banned me for spawning my walker with an e2 that a friend of mine made. They said if it's not mine I can't spawn it. Down with the elitists, I say!!!!
I think... I think.....after all of this.... people need to go outside....

I joined mcbuilds one time last year. I had to download a bunch of bullshit and then got banned because my e2 "had too many OPS"
Cool story bro. No, but seriously good read.

Wow... and all this time I thought I was the cause of its destruction. :v: I still get people harassing me saying I single-handedly destroyed McBuilds. Steeveeo and Dubby did a good job convincing their little 13 year old cronies that big-bad spacegeek is the devil himself. Had a nice chat with ZARDIAN recently where he repeatedly permabanned me from SG-1 HQ - a server I am helping out. The dude even admitted he was doing it at the word of Dubby and Steeveeo. Apparently people 'not liking' me is enough to earn me unending hatred. Just to get this out where everyone can see it, I was one of the 2 people helping John try to save McBuilds after Steeveeo nuked it (go ask John, he WILL back me up on this). I also did my best to counter the unending DDOS which followed. It took us weeks to clean out the customs of the trashed lua and viruses and after ALL that, we had a gmod update that broke most of the addons requiring extensive fixes. With Dubby and Steeveeo claiming copyright over everything they ever opened with Notepad, the mountainous pile of work ahead of us was too much to tackle. Looking at hundred-dollar server bills with nothing running on them, John just let them expire. I got a copy of the entire server (forum included) and did my best to keep the dupes safe - they were the most important part of McBuilds. The really shameful part of all of this is that my team (Gamerscd, [AGS]Phoenix) and I worked our butts off to fix McBuilds while everything was intact and then after Steeveeo nuked the entire thing (because I had the audacity to become more useful to John than Steeveeo liked) he destroyed the entire community just so nobody else could lord over it like he did. And to make it worse, he couldnt just leave it at that. He had to spread the internet hate machine that I and my team were the actual destroyers, all while we worked into the night trying to get the place up and running again. He trashed my name so badly I am STILL getting hate from people I don't know. But today, it is all made right again. My team and I are now working with the last owner of McBuilds - John (nonedead)! I have purchased the McBuild's domains and will be relaunching the community with an all-new addon made by my team and I. Newer, better, more balanced weapons without all the bloat of Stargate, Spacebuild 3 and the cobbled-together mess of McBuilds original customs. The new stuff is leaner, meaner and a LOT more fun. New weapons, new cores, new models, new sounds, new effects. Everything has been rewritten for efficiency and minimal download. All your dupes will be waiting for you. I hope to see all the old faces! If you are interested in more information, find me on Steam and I will fill you in. To keep up to date on the rebuilding, join the Steam group McBuild's. I promise to not kill even one kitten!
Also http://www.mcbuilds.org
Why did you post that, though thats the old url, its content is not relevant.
first of all ZARDIAN only banned you once and he didnt have permban... and you forgetting about me
Hello. I was the Lead Programmer as well as Super Admin at McBuilds for over a year, up to the fall of the server. Here's what really happened: It all seemingly began when I decided to take a long hiatus from managing the server files, and move onto better and brighter pastures. Did I quit? No. I maintained a presence among the staff of the community, fixed bugs when notified of them, and frequently answered numerous LUA related questions from the staff members. The staff had come to the conclusion that all members would vote on new Super Admins. John even agreed to this himself. However, John would soon break that promise as he began to recruit wantonly and, quite frankly, with reckless abandon. SpaceGeek was one of those he recruited without staff approval. This is where the staff began to fall apart. SpaceGeek would use his influence over John to deface other staff members, and recruit more of his flock into the staff. John's biggest mistake was giving SpaceGeek access to the server files. SpaceGeek planted a little bit of code in one of the Stargate files that forcibly kicked himself on login, and then subsequently blamed it on Steeveeo. It only took me a few minutes to locate the code. Using his recently gained favor with John, SpaceGeek had Steeveeo promptly stripped of his rank and banned. I've known Steeveeo for over a year, and he's a good guy. Fuhrball and I remained on the server staff for the time being. However it would not be long before SpaceGeek convinced John to remove my own access to the server files I had so dutifully maintained for so long. Swift action was taken, as Furhball gave his access information to me and I promptly duplicated the entire server and community databases, as well as removing some critical bits of information from all the servers. I had warned SpaceGeek and John, and now the hammer was going to fall. With friends at CCP Games, I pulled what strings I could. Within a few weeks this lead to the FBI seizing the McBuilds servers for copyright infringement. John held a meager job at a Walmart, and so of course had to capitulate. Myself, Steeveeo, and Fuhrball took our victory in tow and created our own server - to which the data from McBuilds was moved. In the coming weeks, virtually all of the original community had moved to ours - with the exception of SpaceGeek, and John. John never really seemed to like McBuilds all that much. He would seldom come on, and when he did would wreck havoc and destruction on all of those who were connected. Of course, as the -owner- none of the staff was able to do anything about his tantrums. This is how McBuilds really fell. As a side note, myself and Steeveeo are considering releasing the entire (and up to date) Space Combat addon to the general public so everyone can enjoy it.
and that would be when i was given a copy of mc-builds by the devs and started my own ver 69.46.43.167:27015
As a side note, myself and Steeveeo are considering releasing the entire (and up to date) Space Combat addon to the general public so everyone can enjoy it.
Someone did that for you.
??? who and how [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] and where
I'm glad to see our release announcement has made such big news! Let me address some issues with the recent posts: lord-garn: We have refactored Space Combat from the ground up to be more efficient and easy to work with. The code has been rewritten, all the juicy parts are commented out in easy to understand language (so you can make your own) and it comes packed with newer, better, more balanced weapons. It is also merged with our new mining addon which is equally as clean and balanced. You won't have to download and update 3-5 SVN's just to pew pew anymore. [Our public pack is already available, but since it is in beta you have to ask to get it. If you want to wait for final release on our site, give it a couple of weeks.] justinboggs: Gamerscd and I never had any intention of merging with SG-1 HQ, we were just messing around on your server and giving you lua advice. We have our own community which is now merged with McBuilds 'Reborn'. Dubby: Why on earth would I ban myself? Your post is nonsense. Remember that the McBuilds dupes will be on the servers, available for everyone. My new addon will be running on the servers making building easier and more intuitive with much less bulk.
@Dubby the FBI never seized anything .... lawl... @wizzard of ass thats not old content its the new site.
@Dubby the FBI never seized anything .... lawl... @wizzard of ass thats not old content its the new site.
Yeah I didnt think anyone actually thought the FBI seized the site. John made it pretty obvious it was fake. The site currently has an install of the old forum skin on it. Normally I would be working on this exclusively but since I am doing a great deal of work on the addon, my work is split.
Mcbuilds.org
Why did you buy Vbulletin?
John did
