Hi. I've owned Garry's Mod for about 2 years now and I have never played a multiplayer match. I don't play often because I don't know how most of the stuff works but I know how to download and install basic addons.
How do I connect to a multiplayer game and how do I know what downloads I need? I saw my friend play something called trouble in a terrorist town or something and it looked like a lot of fun. I've played like 2 online games but a lot of the stuff other people were using just said ERROR on it because I guess I don't have some of the addons they use?
Please use layman's terms I'm not very computer/programming savvy!! D:
Go to the main menu, click the multiplayer button, join a server.

Do you have CS:S? And make sure you get PHX3, its practically required. Unless you are lucky enough to find a vanilla server.
You need:
HL2
HL2: EP1
HL2: EP2
CSS
PHX and
Wiremod.
That's all you really need to play gmod online

errr I have gmod, tf2, and portal...
i think i'll get css and hl2 but do I really need HL2 ep 1/2?
also, a lot of the things i got with phx3 are errors
PHX3 and Wiremod are the most widely-used GMod addons. The former is a large and versatile model pack, the latter is a sort of ingame programming system that uses a lot of custom models.
...unfortunately they both require the use of SVN, which might be confusing for people who are not so good with computers.

You should probably get Episode 2 at the very least, GMod comes with some stuff that requires content from it (flechette gun, hunter NPC etc.)
