I have heard players accuse other players of having a hack which expands hitboxes thus making it easier to kill them. To me this just seems absurd as I thought all of that was handled serverside. Does something like this exist or are they just making stuff up? And if it does exist how is that even possible? I don't need code or anything, I just can't see how it is possible for a client to adjust the hitbox of other players.
They're making it up
I've never heard anything about such as a hitbox expander. A quick Google-search will probably be more informational.
There is no way that this could be done client-side, but this is one of the more... creative excuses I've seen.
Maybe for singleplayer, but I don't know if it's possible at all for multiplayer.
I bet they're using a lag-switch too. Makes everyone else except them lag so they can headshot you.
(lol not really I just suck and can't admit it so I make up bullshit to try and feel better)

if you notice a regular pattern of someone's ping spiking right before they kill, banning is a good idea.
A serverside script also could be possible to do that.
Thanks for the responses.

Just about everyone... You'd have a harder time finding a server without any hackers than with, at least in my experience.

Every time I ban an aimbotter, they add me, and this is always the first thing they say to me. "LOL who cheats at GMod."
This isn't possible to my knowledge, however.
There are a few hacks, specially in games such as CSS where it's very hard to tell if some people are cheating (If they do it properly).
Basically there corrective aimbots, aimbots that will only alter your aim if you are within xx distance from the hitbox you are trying to hit. There insanely hard to detect and people who use them become deluded. Saying there not really hacking, they just cba to aim properly or w/e.
Anyway, hitbox expander = impossible. When spectating you don't always see a true position of the crosshair when the player fires. I suspect this is what causes the rumour.

This is actually what happened in a ban recently and why the admin thought there was a hitbox expander. I explained to them that it was due to client-server-client lag. You have to get their information, so their information is transferred to the server, then the server transfers it to you. This means there will be a delay of at LEAST the two pings added together.
This topic can be locked now. The question has been sufficiently answered. Thanks
Also IIRC Hitboxes are actually in the quake c script (which is part of the model.) Good luck fucking with that to cheat.
One of the overlying issues with GMod is that the CS:S weapon animations make the character seem much shorter than they are. Sitting behind a prop or brush in the world can let you be able to see over it, but when an observer looks at you, they're completely hidden behind said prop/brush.
It's not a hack, it's just a bug with GMod specifically.
