So, I gifted my buddy gmod, because he has no games that I do. So, he activated it, and it said he needs a source sdk 2006 game. I went back to the list of games that make gmod work, [URL="http://store.steampowered.com/search/?category2=16"][U]here[/U][/URL]. He has portal. he got it when it was free several months ago. It isn't the first slice, either. This is the full game. Help, guys?
Tell him to reinstall Garry's Mod AND Portal, and to run Portal one time before he plays Garry's Mod.
The free version of portal isn't doesn't give you the Source SDK.
Give him HL2:DM for 5$ and it should work.
And the free HL2DM won't work either.
I learned the hard way. :sigh:
C'mon guys, The full HL2DM is only 5$..

The Free version doesn't come with the Source SDK/SDK Base, which you need for MODS Like GARRY'S MOD.

Yea, i had the exact same problem as the OP. Same situation and all. I was SO fucked off. Because steam doesn't warn you that the free version of portal doesnt support gmod, [B]if you gift it.[/B] I wrote in to the fuckers, but did they fix it? no -.-
(take into account that when buying gmod, it should warn you "You do not have the SDK engine" or whatever...)

The free version of Portal that was distributed with the Mac launch of Steam does NOT include the Source SDK, which is required for you to use Garry's Mod.
