• Garry's Mod freezes on loading screen

As the title says: Whenever I try to launch gmod from Steam, the loading screen comes up, and after a few seconds Windows reports the application as unresponsive. Even if left in this state for several minutes, nothing happens. What I've already tried:

Defragment cache files
Verify integrity of game cache
Delete local game content & reinstall
Former, manually delete all game data from steamapps & reinstall
combinations of -window -fullscreen and -dxlevel with settings 70, 80, 81 and 90
updated my graphics card drivers
reinstalled my graphics card drivers
updated all of my drivers
ran full anti-virus scan on my system
disabled my anti-virus
ran gmod as administrator
The game (like all of my games) is legimately bought. My system specs (not that they matter, but you'll ask anyway) are: CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620 @ stock 2.6GHz GFX: XFX ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1GB memory, running at stock voltages and clockspeeds RAM: 4GB 1333MHz CL9 (Kingston ValueRAM-branded if I recall correctly) OS: fully updated Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Everything ran just fine last week when I reinstalled and testran gmod after updating to Windows 7. Now after I saw the steam toast about gmod having been updated succesfully, I decided I'd fire it up, and it just won't work. Any help would be appreciated.
I have this same problem. I didn't expect Gmod to run anyway though. I have a pretty shit PC.
