A Convar to set a message displayed while connecting and downloading files would be cool.
Or perhaps a window or something that shows motd? Or maybe a custom location or supports html so you can make a cool thing to look at while they wait?
Wouldn't that cause slower loading on older PCs? Maybe if can be toggled...
Yeah like options > multiplayer > Enable/Disable Connection messages.
