• Please help! MAJOR GARRY'S MOD ISSUES SCINCE 3/28/11 UPDATE!
    41 replies, posted
Hi, names Ether. Ive been having a ton of trouble trying to get garry's mod to start up ever since friday the 1st of april (AND NO THIS AINT A FUCKIN APRIL FOOLS JOKE I SRSLY NEED HELP HERE) and ever since I tried to play that day it has not worked. I suspect it to have been a result of the garry's mod update on the 28th of march 2011. These are the problems I have been experiencing: -garrysmod starts up and goes to the loading screen, but does not respond. I wait for almost a half an hour each time, and it does not respond. -I open up good ol' task manager and it says that hl2.exe is running under processes, but garrysmod under the applications tab continues to say "not responding" and I really need help! -I have tried to contact team garry and valve through normal means, but they "as expected" did not respond :'C -NO ERROR MESSAGE AT ALL GET THIS STUCK IN UR HEAD :3 I have tried the following to attempt to fix the issue mahshelf: -setting start options such as -dxlevel 8, -dxlevel 81, -dxlevel 90, -windowed, -test, and -autoconfig. None worked, some made the issue worse and prevented the loading screen from coming up at all. -Attempted a windows home server system restore, and a system restore through windows 7, but it did not help. -uninstalling and reinstalling garrysmod, and removing all gmod content from my computer via "the almighty delete key of justice" -shutting off my computer fully "yeah, I actually thought that would help -_-" My operating system specifications are as follows :3 so read carefully: -windows 7 x64 bit -hp brand desktop -NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT Graphics card UP TO DATE ;3 -as far as I know, no viruses/spyware on mah computa :> Please, for the love of all that is worthy of garrysmod, facepunch and the internet as we know it, ANSWER THIS AND PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! :3 Also, garry newman, if you actually answer this form like Meka and Mr. Cake said you might, I will give Meka a super-hug :3
• Try Right clicking on Garrys Mod inside your Library tab and click "Delete Local Content" and then Reinstall (Rather then deleting the Garry's mod Directory entirely) • Try Right clicking on Garrys Mod, Clicking Property, Click Local Files, and verify the integrity of the game cache. Also, Just making sure. Is your copy of Garry's Mod Legit? On a side note, This community frowns upon the use of "-_-, ;3, :>, :3, :'C" Etc.

I did in fact try each of those things you mentioned. Is there anything else you might be able to recommend to me? Oh and yes, my gmod copy is legit I bought it on steam.
Try updating your Drivers. I'm making shots in the dark here because there were no error messages.
Try updating your Drivers. I'm making shots in the dark here because there were no error messages.
Ok I will try updating my drivers, also Meka just told me to try putting steam in a different folder, would that work?
No, that well never work, try reinstalling steam
Offtopic: I don't think facepunch cares much about :3 and :D or :( when used RIGHT. If its used wrong, in every sentence, or just spammed. Facepunch will hate you. Ontopic: Go to your registry, (Windows key + R, type in Regedit, hit enter) Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Valve > Source > Garrysmod, and delete the settings folder.

Instead of going "omg don't use this cause I h8 it", how about trying to help the person out. The best (and standard) procedure is to clean your Gmod folder out. The easiest way is to navigate where Garrysmod/garrysmod is located in steamapps, rename the folder to garrysmod_old and start up Gmod. This will start Gmod with a fresh copy of the game. If the issue persists with a fresh copy then it's most likely a driver issue (which you said you're in the process of updating them, or at least your graphics one).

Also, can't believe nobody mentioned or I'm missing something here. There was no update on the 28th of March, last game update was 1st of March 2011.
I dont remember saying i hated this webside
My initial comment wasn't aimed at you, it was aimed at others (eg umop apisdn)
All I know is that the problem started april first, and I have no clue as to why it happened. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
No, that well never work, try reinstalling steam
Look before I try reinstalling EVERYTHING, I would like all other possile suggestions. Also, I did dump my gmod folder and the problem percisted. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
Offtopic: I don't think facepunch cares much about :3 and :D or :( when used RIGHT. Might seem to be an obvious question, but can you launch all other source games correctly? Eg CSS / TF2.
Funny thing bout that, CSS will not launch ethir. TF2 on the other hand works pretty darn well.
So CSS gives the exact same result as Garrysmod?
Yeah
Well, with any luck dump files are being created. If you browse to your steamapps/accname/garrysmod folder you should (hopefully) see a folder called dumps. Try and find a dump that has been created within the past 5 days and upload it to http://dumps.garrysmod.com/ . Then link us to the dump. If there isn't a dump, it just becomes a case of try everything until it works.
I have two dumps created after the first of april. I will send you the link in a moment. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] first one http://dumps.garrysmod.com/?view=62683688&viewanyway=1 [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] The second one....well....it refreshed 50+ times without processing it so I call that one a misfire.
About reinstalling everything, it's not a major issue for most Steam content long as you save the gcf files. Try the age old usual of deleting steam.dll,steamclient.dll and the clientreg.vob or w/e it's called. Something with reg and vob in it ;). I normally just delete everything but steamapps and steam.exe, run steam.exe and wait 5 minutes for it to re-download the system files.
Sounds like a plan, can u list each dll specificly that i need to delete so i dont go "oh shit....just deleted system 32 well good bye world" and die
Well, the ones in the steam folder obviously :) c:/program files/steam/*.dll and the reg vob file w/e the hell it's called. If you don't feel confortable deleting them, just move then into a new folder as backups :). That way you can't go far wrong ;).

Actually I'm sure you could find a hooker to deliver a fondling if you google enough.

However, what it could be is the steam friends overlay popping up in game, causing it to stall. Under the properties of the game (library - right click gmod - properties), untick "Enable Steam Community In-Game

I suspect something to be wrong on the steam side of the files, not my clientside. I dont really know what to do, I told steam however they are being complete fucktards right now telling me to do things over and over again that I already did. Any advice????!!!!
I know its pretty silly, but the thing that helped me with the SAME problem was simply updating windows
I have tried everything. I even updated windows. Please, everyone, help me find a way to fix this!
