• What would you want in a Sandbox map?

I was curious as to what the community would like to see in a sandbox map. Open water for boatbuilding, offroad tracks, buildings, flat land, etc. Anything you'd like to see in a map, or anything you'd specifically NOT want to see.. post it here. Then I'll try my best to make it once I get enough feedback. Thanks. :D
There are enough sandbox maps already to cover all of our requirements.
It'd a project I want to do, reguardless I'm GOING to do it. I just thought getting feedback on what's wanted (more specifically grouped together. I know you can find a map with a bunch of water, or a map with an offroad track, or a map with train tracks, or flatgrass..) in order to make a nice one as opposed to just what I would want.
I'd say a nice squarish water area, A large flat field, a few vaults for lairs and a Stargate pedestal with a ring base shaped area. A sort of cylinder with a cut out area, slightly larger than the rings that come up, with a circular dip for the ring.
a cliff with bunkers and a castle and a sea and on the other side of the sea there is anothe island and you can have millatary battles and build cannons for destroying boats lol
Definitely needs some kind of height differentiation. A cliff is okay, but so is a steep hill. Otherwise, it's very flat and uninteresting. A tunnel system is a good thing too, as long as they're not too confusing.

Grass.
a cliff with bunkers and a castle and a sea and on the other side of the sea there is another island and you can have military battles and build cannons for destroying boats lol
Preferably this, plus ai nodes and the like.
Things you could build on and mess around with, i.e. catapults, cars, a mountain for sledding, elevator to the sky that you could jump from, giant slingshot, etc. I think this might just inject some more creativity intot he gmod community. ;) Don't forget the technical stuff like ai nodes and optimization as well
wide open areas for fast cars and rockets tall drops for ragdoll torture a realistic area for machinima possibly a road with that area for cars basicly a good sandbox map is... bigcity / evo city/ flatgrass = great sandbox map
The edge of the playable-area needs to be apparent, but doesn't necessarily have to be the edge of the map,too Use a 3-D skybox to seamlessly transition to some kind of impassible terrain. Mountains, cliffs, coral reefs, a volcano, whatever fits the map.
Train tracks. I almost never play on maps without them. Also, I'd love to beta test your map. Also, I'd love it if you used only HL2 content, so anyone with Gmod could play it.
sand.
You ever notice how much of a bitch you rub off as toward people during the past few days? Problems at home? Abusive father? Stiff upper lip?
That's pretty rude.
There are enough sandbox maps already to cover all of our requirements.
There can never be enough variety. Any mapper might have the potential to turn out the next masterpiece, and you should always be willing to help foster creativity. You say you already have enough maps. What is it about those maps that make them special? What do you like about them? What don't you like about them?
No, no, NO NO NO NO NO, NO, DOUBLE NO, SUPER NO, DUN DUN DUN ! NO, NO MORE SANDBOX DAMNIT, WE GOT MORE SANDBOX THEN BROKEN HOUSES IN haiti (Which if you don't know atm is an assload)
A map with different areas. Water, Desert, gras, rocky ground (for clifs etc) and a long downhill with a teleporter entrance at bottom to top.
I'd like some varied and rough terrain with a large flat building area, and maybe a medium-sized lake that's pretty deep.
Canals, rails, a small RP area, landing strip, and have the whole thing a desert.

So is everyone else for telling this guy/gal that he/she should not do what they want even though they have come on here to ask what YOU the people want in a sandbox map. Instead you deny him your input and instead tell him not to waste his time when all we know is that he could create the next best thing.
But that's the thing. We don't want or need another sandbox map.
I could use one that isn't using construct textures or isn't just plain flatgrass. Something nice looking but with appropriate lighting & areas for building would be good.
a large building area with a desert with sand dunes and some huge jumps and hills.you could do epic prop surfing/sledging on the hills
a large building area with a desert with sand dunes and some huge jumps and hills.you could do epic prop surfing/sledging on the hills
I'm voting for his idea.
Rocks(caves,mountains,slopes) +water(underwater caves anyone?)
Somewhere to put my Stargates, and ring teleports.
I would like a map that's in like four sections which are flatgrass, water, offroad/forest, and buildings. Oh wait, that's kind of like mobenix, right?
But that's the thing. We don't want or need another sandbox map.
Speak for yourself. If it's original enough, and has a minimum of flatgrass, I'd be all for it.

evrybody likes my ideas
