• GMod and Source 2?

http://kotaku.com/5959630 What does the new source engine mean for GMod? Will Garry port or stay on the current version? The reason I ask is because I remember Garry once saying he will port the mod, but Gabe said its a "brand new engine" - so I'm not sure if this will cause problems? GMod would greatly benefit from an improved physics system for example, probably more.
From my understanding I don't think it'd ever happen. Gmod would have to be COMPLETELY recreated into a "whole new game". Who knows, maybe Garry will, but it probably won't be until late 2013 or early 2014 before anything concrete came into view.
I wouldn't be too eager yet yo make any speculations on the new engine and how GMod would run on it until the time comes.
Hopefully Source 2 will be a major core improvement but still compatible with all the stuff from Source. After all, Source is modular. Its underlying framework makes it compatible with all sorts of new functions and if I personally were to do a Source 2, I'd maintain as much of that modularity as possible while making improvements to the low-level stuff.
gmod 20 here we come!
It's years away and there'll probably be even more time after that before garry even gets the opportunity, useless to speculate it now

It would definitely be much, much different, yet including the same gameplay and style.
Garry said in a reply to a tweet that if EP3 comes out, he'll be changing to the engine it uses
Garry's a smart lad, I'm sure he'll do it. There's no huge reason not to. He's working on it all day anyway.
Good lord what's with all this crazy jumpstart speculation already
You guys do realize that it might not be simpel to "move to source 2"? Source 2 might be completely scratchd, or atleast might have nothing to do with Source. By what I read, they aren't working on yet another version of source. I also doubt that Source 2 will be able to run on nearly every PC, like Source does. And as Drake said, it's years away. By the time Garry might have started doing engine optimizations and generaly changes, the vphysics replacement project might have been finished and so on. Damn too early to even think of what source 2 will be. But since you are asking, I think we will be completely unaffected by Source 2.

Source 2 will have a lot of improvements but break comp-ability with older PC's. Garry is a smart guy, if Source 2 would come he probably would give all he can to remake garry's mod to source 2. It's still a long way to source 2 so just wait. At the beginning of it there will be security holes and bugs anyways.
It won't be exactly a smart move since a big part of the community runs on old/not well picked PCs (you'll be supprised how many people actually are bound to run at DX 8.1 and lower their resolution). One of the things I love about gmod is that it is playable even on my PC. Also nobody said that valve will release their source code again, you know.
We aren't even on the P2/CSGO engine yet and you're talking about Source 2...honestly, I don't think it is going to happen. The entire game would have to be redone. If its an entierly new engine, it would be the equivalent of requesting CS 1.6 to be "updated" to the Source Engine, without re-creating the game.
Gmod + Source 2 = Less laggy physics <3?
