Questions about installing stuff

well i got gmod a while ago But now i am getting addons and tools and stuff any ways i read the add ons for dumbies >.< ( after i read all the readme's and tried installing them unsuccessfully)

and yea my few questions....
ok so i open C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\garrysmod\garrysmod and also open the add ons folder seperatly

some things say to install in to addons and others dont tell you were to install
so i got confused XD
so i tryed 2 ways on installing every thing i dled (tools, maps, Weps, models ect)

first way was basicly put everything in addons in there seperate folders tho inside addons so its like
addons/halosweps

or

Addons/stargate somthing XD

and yea then inside tho's are the lua fodler the setting folder and stuff

the second way i tried was taking all the folders that were inside the unziped folder so like
inside halosweps there the model , settings , sound, ect
i took the model, settings, and sound and droped tho's in to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\garrysmod\garrysmod
and as teh popup says do you want to put the file in this folder wich may cause replacing i hit yes or yess all to them and then so on with all of it

and so on

am i able to take every thing excluding the info.txts and put them in the C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\garrysmod\garrysmod folder and will that install it so i dont need to sort through addons and non addons

or somone explain the best way of doing it.....

and for maps i just put in C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username\garrysmod\garrysmod\maps

right?
