Creating an LAN server kicks my friend from the account

Is it possible to create an LAN server on the same account, using the same network? I've tried putting both computers into offline mode, as a search result suggested, but one of us is still booted off the account. Is there any way to do this?

I've done it several times... But I never remember which way worked.
Try:
One computer online, the other in offline mode. Host the server with both computers and try joining with both.
Both computers in offline mode.
Go into online mode on both computers, then pull the internet cable and insert the internet cable directly between your two computers instead.
Go into offline mode on both computers and pull the internet cable, insert cable between both computers.

Try some other ways if you can think of any.
