I think comments on garrysmod.org should be removed again

Why?

All from the top few rows on the front page. Because garrysmod.org is an unmoderated site, people think they can get away with stuff like the above. Instead of comments, perhaps include a textbox entitled "Link to Facepunch thread" where uploaders would enter the URL for the relevant FP thread. Comments could be added to that thread where the mod team can keep the quality and integrity of posts high.
garrysmod.org is a useful site. The new verification system is a step in the right direction (even if some people find the instructions too hard), but the fact that people are unable to post decent comments on files just turns the place into a youtube clone without videos.
Comments were removed once before and I believe they should be taken away again.
the last time i replied to a whiny pirate on there, it said my comment was awaiting moderation.. so either there is moderation now, or all comments are indefinitely being blocked from going public
[editline]1[/editline]
but i'm still seeing recent comments.. I don't know wtf is going on then
I agree with you.
We had comments before but it was never as bad as it is now.
I think it's good to have comments on the download but since 50% of the comments are flame and random words it looses it's point.
Redirecting all comment to a thread would hopefully solve the problem.
It would have to be restricted to facepunch only so people don't fill it with a random link.
I certainly agree, they hardly talk about the download itself, and they spam.
But if as you say they posted their comments on Facepunch, then they can be controlled more efficiently.
Uggh holy shit that comment system has become a fucking shitfest. Either Garry should get someone to code one that only allows verified users to post in it, or remove it altogether.
Jesus, that one kid, Kandor, seems to think piracy is justified if the game isn't on disk? Seriously that kid needs a axe to his back or something.

I'm also sick with having an endlessly long page with comments I don't give a shit about.
I personally think Facepunch and garrysmod.org should be integrated with each other fully. Meaning one account for both sites, upload information on a user's account, and addon uploads should be required to have a thread about it. That way you could prevent people re-uploading stuff and making crappy addon packs.
It's frustrating just seeing how many people have no idea how follow instructions.
Is it really that hard to paste something onto your account and click a button?
They should be removed completely because if they had been on there when I bought GMod, I wouldn't have bothered.
At first, I thought the comments would be nice; a way to see if anyone had problems with an addon before I download it, without having to go to fp, or without the uploader having to make a fp thread, but unfortunately it seems that in reality, few people care about using an addon's comments for the addon.
@timenova:
I agree that moving comments to fp could be a good idea: perhaps creating a new category in Garry's Mod Discussion or somewhere exclusively for upload comments. While I doubt any moderator would want to slog through the level of crapspam in the current comment boxes, perhaps, at least, just the threads being on facepunch would deter the spammers.
Another idea: would it be possible for there to be a way for the people who uploaded the things moderate the comments only for their own uploads? have many mini-mods patrolling the comments instead of a few full mods faced with that stuff?
[edit:]
Nevermind about that last idea, I can see abuse with the user deleting all negative comments about their addon to make it look better.
Well, I think garry needes a better comment "hoster", this one seems like it's not doing its job very well.
I agree with those people who want comments removed because of spammers and other stuff.
yep i agreed there are lots of winners and biching about shit like'how you open the console'and shit
Personally, I think you should be only allowed to post comments with your facepunch account.
If you're banned on FP then all of your comments are hidden, along with any that were replied to you.
At least then alot of these shitty comments will go away.
We shouldn't remove comments, some are helpful and logical. Others are fucking retarded like spam or links to that i hate jade website.
agree, remove.

I haven't seen one helpful comment on gmod.org.
I dont know
they helped me fix an old swep of mine
and on other large downloaded items on the front page
of course people will flame
but there is still a god amongst the devils
plus
some of that stuff is fun to read :D
lmfao ^^
I concur. I made a topic a little while ago whining about this, aha. Perhaps garrysmod.org should do as Engadget did and freeze comment posts while the mods swing the banhammer. Though it seems garrysmod lacks moderators.
Black Ice's suggestion is wise, but people will freak out as much as they did with the steam verification thing. As sakarias pointed out, comments are pretty useless when you have to wade through a dozen spam posts to find something useful. Perhaps the comment system needs a link remover programmed in. That would cut down on the spam, at least.
It needs some damn moderation aswell.
My old tf2 weapons stolen: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=94179
"I recalled them because it broke your pause menu for some reason, and it has someone elses dead ringer in it."
Im just sick of finding about 30 things on each page that are stolen from other things.
PS: Comments should be removed aswell.

Meh, Whining is when you get frustrated over something and have a need to complain about it 24/7 :P
Definitely removing or forcing them to use a facepunch thread would be nice.
Personally I like the comments there, they're nice for identifying useless or malicious files, and as others have said, can point out things that are broken or need improvement.
Personally the only time I ever even look at the comments is if I'm thinking about downloading something that I'm not totally sure about, I'll check first to see if anyone else has any problems with it. Other than that I usually don't even stay on a download page long enough for the comments to even load.
I really don't see what the big deal is for some people. If you don't like reading the comments, don't read them. Leave them for those of us who do. Why is this such a big deal?
People are fucking idiots. Please make it so they need a verified account before they can comment. Would filter out all the pirates who complain about not being able to download it too.

Shielder is a prime example of this. 150+ comments with flaming, pirates, and just dumbfucks.

It hardly gives off a good reputation for the site or Gmod as a whole.

And too many people complaining about the verification.
Actually, I reckon we should keep comments.
I just read through that "debate" on the PHX3 page and I fucking laughed my ass off. Great read.
