So,
Tell me, what type of roleplaying suits you best? By this I mean LightRP, SeriousRP and what type HL2RP, Black Mesa RP(Not used often though). Anyway write below and keep the conversations to a minimum.
I don't like RP anymore. nowadays, I go in expecting a fun RP and it ends up turning into the admin propkilling everyone because he has a big wiener. [sp]or so he says[/sp]
Very Serious RP. Such as you might have a friend you know, but you have to remake your meeting. That kind.

I'm mutual on seriousrp. Either it's supreme or it's boring and elitist, usually the latter. You just wait around while everyone around from the start of the server plays. You have to "roleplay" (donate) to get anything on most rp servers anyway.
If you actually know of any good serious rp though please share.
i rp den i get baned but i ddos lol they owned
SeriousRP, but it's never done right. Ever. I've never once see a community do it right, despite the simplicity of doing so.
Maybe one day I'll do it. Bring that shit back to the old days of quality.
I have to say SeriousRP is my favorite.
No RP is serious enough anymore, I remember in the ancient TSRP (Not GMOD) I got banned for running on the streets.

Serious RP isn't made by enforcing ridiculous restraints and restrictions on the roleplayer, but giving the general playerbase a way and matter of creating roleplay without such restraints/restrictions/rules.
Also to answer the question... I lean towards Forum RP and 'Lite RP'
Fallout shelter is a good one I play on for actual RP.
SeriousRP without the following examples:
** Sneaks up behind a man.
Man turns around and snaps the attacker's neck. - The metagaming people do when they see you /me a surprise buttsex.
Or:
** Moves his left leg
** Moves his right leg
** Moves his left leg
** Moves his right leg - The fact that most RP servers require you to /me everything, even the visual things that people can obviously see.
And the ridiculous RP fights:
Player 1 rolls a 76 out of 100
Player 2 rolls a 77 out of 100
** Player 2 hits Player 1 across the face.
Player 1 rolls a 100 out of 100
Player 2 rolls a 99 out of 100
** Player 1 hits Player 2 in the dick. - You obviously won't be doing this in real life. Its like fighting with rock paper scissors, having the winner attack, and the loser stay still (although that'd be pretty cool)
And especially not this:
** Shoots at someone who is 2 fucking feet away
** Gets banned for S2K. - This is really annoying, because it implies that no one has ever used a gun before, although it isn't rocket science to point and shoot. Especially when your target is 2 feet away from you.
Overall, there are very little RP servers I actually like. I did manage to have fun on Black Mesa RP, but I'm still waiting for someone to make Deus Ex RP or Far Cry RP. They'd be really fun.

First, I know..exactly how you feel. Second, I was actualy making a Serious Fallout RP server, but the idea of Far Cry RP may be awesome.
The only Serious RP server I've ever liked a lot just closed down about a month ago. Small community, but we all knew each other well (which led to internal arguments and the server's end). It was serious, but not super-serious. There was a time for all kinds of seriousness level and for the most part, people were able to get serious again when RP was starting back up. The actual RP theme used to rotate between whatever the population online voted for. Some examples are Fallout, Medieval/Fantasy, Space, City, Nation (faction based), and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. It's really a shame it closed down, but we had seen it coming eventually.

All the non popular servers are good because they dont expect much money so they dont make you give it. I know one server that i like a lot but nobody goes on. The max is 8/9 and when 8 or 9 people are on its a lot of fun

Do you mean that hell-hole named Habeebs RP.
I hope by 'knew each-other well' you meant 'hated each-other outright except when someone served a purpose I could use'.
I could go into a full essay on how terrible that server was, from my first joining many years ago to my eventual departure, but I probably shouldn't.

darkrp
darkrp
Well done. You are the first to say DarkRP. I've been waiting for someone to say DarkRP is their favourite.
I loeve DarkRP, but only if tehserrrvar has over 50 jobs to gib me varierty.
:sarcasm:
thanks i would have never guessed you were being sarcastic until you put :sarcasm: there
:sarcasm:
To tell you the truth guys, when I first got into RP, I started with DarkRP, then moved to PERP, and then HL2RP, and then after learning that HL2RP has it's "issues" I play Serious FalloutRP
I began my venture into GMod RP back in 2008 with DarkRP. It was fun, but as someone that had roleplayed on forums and even on YouTube (there was a whole community of people that roleplayed through their channels), I was looking for something else. The thing I noticed about DarkRP was that it focused more on script related things, such as gathering tons of money and buying new guns, or building a shop with wiremod. While it was still technically roleplay, it wasn't the kind of roleplay I was looking for.
I came across a HL2RP server called Next-Gen Half-Life 2 Roleplay. It ran its own custom script, and the community itself was run by a person called Lappy. I really enjoyed myself on there, and saw the many great possibilities for roleplaying in GMod. I stuck with NG until 2010 (playing on other servers as well in between, such as Shh Roleplay) when it eventually bit the dust. After that I tried to host a couple of servers on my own, and some of them were successful (at least in my eyes) while others weren't.
So I suppose you could say that I prefer so called "serious roleplay", however I'm not a big fan of all the names people have for roleplay. It's roleplay, doesn't matter if you put "serious" or "light" in front of it. Let the players decide if they think it's serious or not. Roleplay is, in its most basic form, is pretending to be a character you're not (ie playing a role).
What I've learned during these four years in the GMod RP community, is that its biggest issue is the drama. There is an incredible amount of OOC drama going on inside and between different communities, and its almost always the cause of their demises. The fact that people take things that happen inside of fucking games so god damn seriously is unbelievable to me. Another issue is the amount of roleplay servers out there. Instead of joining an already existing community and trying to climb the ranks/establish themselves, people just want to lead and create their own communities without realizing that leadership comes with responsibility and professionalism. Leading a GMod RP community quickly becomes a part time job, and frankly, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a bitch dealing with DDoS attacks, people constantly kissing up to you and demanding your attention on server related topics. People need to stop making threads like "What do you hate about RP?", "What RP gamemode is the best?", "What is your favorite type of roleplay?" etc because all it does is create even more drama and even more wars. Why do we have to fight between what type of roleplay is "the best"? Nothing is the best. Someone might find the type of roleplay that usually goes down on DarkRP servers fun, and that's their opinion and they're entitled to it, while someone else might enjoy actually developing an interesting character on a more "serious" server. We all have different opinions, and there's no need to fight and bitch about them.
oh god please do
I don't hold grudges against any of the members, as I was young and so were they, but holy fuck was that a cesspool of shit.
It all started around late 2008, which is, clearly, four years ago. I had just gotten Garry's Mod and Counter Strike: Source, and I decided to try out Garry's Mod. I did the standard single player experience, and played around on sandbox servers for a day or two, then later some DarkRP, but then I decided to try to do something new. I found this server running "RPPX fixed", which was a relatively unplayed gamemode. I spawned, and made my name "Gordon Frohman", unoriginal but something nonetheless. I quickly decided I liked the way the server operated as the admins were usually on and doing something interesting. Over the course of the next two months, I established myself as a regular and matured somewhat into someone who could type coherent sentences and had a proper name.
As a kid, I was always fat. It's not something I'm proud of, but it's not something I'm ashamed of either. I went to a predominantly black middle school, and faced a lot of shit from it. I feel as it later aided to my development as a person, as once I went into highschool I really changed completely. Anyways, this affected my general moods as a kid, I was quick to temper (but also easy to forget).
As I established myself in this community, my temper became known as well. I was prone to extreme outbursts of anger, but these would quickly calm down. When I was there, I was in a clique of people who held a certain sway with the owner, and what we wanted would get pushed onto the server. I didn't do this consciously, and I'm sure I didn't do it subconsciously, because that specific clique was just who became my "friends" the fastest.
Over a period of time, the horrible truth of this community became clearer and clearer, as I realized what really went on with the members of the community. Cliques would form and dissolve, members would move from clique to clique, holding grudges and quickly forgetting them. I, in my childhood ignorance, was a part of that process. I quickly become fed up with the community and the way they operate, and I left.
It wasn't long before I came back, though, I think it was about a month. I actually enjoyed the "roleplay", which now I wouldn't even begin to think of it like that, and it was, pretty much, like a drug. It was my only escape from the constant ridicule I had at school, my only chance to be something other than a fat 12 year old with a handful of true friends. I came back, faced off the initial flak, and began roleplaying again.
It was sometime after this that someone put up a "Post your pictures" thread on the community forums, and I thought, "Hey, why not?" I posted my picture, which wasn't a really good idea. Pretty soon I was known as "The Whale", and I had a troupe of people who would announce my presence with cries of "man the harpoons", which was pretty fucking funny then and now. It was only so funny after so many times, however, and I quickly became extremely sensitive about my weight online. As you can probably guess, I got extremely mad a lot, but I'd quickly calm down.
I can't remember very specific examples, but I hope I can give you some sort of idea. The community was filled with people much like myself (with exceptions, of course, I'm talking about the community as a whole), antisocial nerds who hated everything about everyone. These people became the dominant playerbase, and the themes of roleplay grew to accompany this. The main roleplay changed from the team based Nation RP, which was unsuccessfully revived several times, to Half-Life 2 RP and Fallout 3 RP. This, along with a 13 year old girl who exploited the wants of lusty preteens and teenagers, became the ultimate downfall of the community.
The roleplays that were switched to were consistently boring, offering nothing in terms of "fun" or "engagement". The girl mentioned previously caused a schism in the community, with those who hated her and wanted her gone, and those who wanted her to stay. I was on the side of getting rid of her, as I saw her as a leech and a parasite on the community. As usual, the two factions splintered and had their own little cliques, with much infighting between them.
The girl also spawned something else, and spread quickly, with pubescent lust acting as catalyst. Cybering became rampant, with almost everyone (with the exception of myself and my own clique) cybering with someone, who was likely another dude.
The owner was an okay guy, but he was pretty fucking lazy. The reason it's dead now is because he didn't want to update his script for GM13. All he really did to moderate was listen to the first thing he heard, and then type a little essay on why everyone is wrong. Not much else, really.
And then the community was acquired by a gaming conglomerate called "Mantis Community", who was headed by a guy I used to know on a HL2RP. He didn't remember me, but holy shit, I learned to quickly hate him. He used the server as entertainment when he'd get high, treating the clients like cattle and his personal playthings. It was pretty weird in retrospect, but to each their own, I suppose.
Eventually I just told an admin to permaban me, after I went off on a rant calling everyone an idiot. I don't think it changed at all since I left, and now that it's gone, I think everyone killed themselves. I really don't hold remorse for certain people, but everyone else is cool. I still talk with three people from that community, two of which I hated during my time there, but turns out they're pretty cool guys.
I guess I covered pretty much anything, so yeah
He left a few things out, namely how the admins were largely retarded save for 1 or 2 (they never got on anyways so it didn't matter), and how each one acted completely independent of each-other and would frequently fight over who should get banned/unbanned or how the RP should be run.
They'd also hold frequent 'admin meetings' with 3 circle jerking admins out of the whole team of 7+ to meet and make plans for everyone, and then execute them without telling anyone, not even the owner.
Oh! Don't forget the frequent smear campaigns members held against each other, where they'd dig up pictures, Facebook profiles, even full names and places of residence simply because they PKed one of their characters.
I remember you being a huge pessimist every time you joined the server. It was bad at times, but in any community you have to deal with crap.
If I recall correctly, I was introduced to GMod roleplay back in early 2009 by a friend of mine. He blabbed on about the amazing world of GMod and the dozens upon dozens of interesting gamemodes. I took his advice and eventually found myself on a DarkRP server. I don't know about anyone else, but I was enamored the first time I joined. It was that feel of being a new player, in a new world that invigorated me. Sure, it wasn't necessarily the type of roleplay I enjoy these days, but I had fun without the knowledge of knowing what other types of roleplay loom ahead. It was innocent and I generally saw it as another gamemode, not some sprawling empire used by prepubescents.
For better or for worse I came across a "serious" HL2RP server in the summer of 09. That was an even greater feeling than the DarkRP. It was a rush as I had no what to expect from this server and those who played on it. It was a new environment and I found myself immersed in a world of the unknown.
To keep a story relatively short, I climbed the social hierarchy of the server and nearly everyone knew who I was. About the same time I stopped feeling that immersion that I had previous felt. I figured it was because I had gotten to the type of the OOC scale and I nearly knew everyone's personality. There was nothing left to explore and I simply spent a few months burning out before quitting.
It may not be the same for any of you, but I have always found a new setting, where I have no knowledge about the server and it's population, to be the most exciting. However, many roleplay servers today have massive circlejerks that range from the administration to their player friends. It results in the player friend receiving special treatment when compared to the plebs. The plebs themselves yearn for the attention of the administration, yet rarely receive any sort of acknowledgement. It boils down to who can impress who first and form the biggest circlejerk instead of actual roleplay.
Just my view on roleplay, I suppose.
I remember you being a huge pessimist every time you joined the server. It was bad at times, but in any community you have to deal with crap.
It wasn't really pessimism, it was more me knowing what to expect from both the server and the community, I was there long enough to know how bad it could and would get.
hl2rp back in the days of Half-Life 2: Death Match and role-play.us. I spent so many hours trolling the shit out of that community and it was so easy because the map forced your hostname to the website's URL. Every day there was at least one thread on that forum whining about me. They could just not play on my server but since all the server names were the same you never could tell until you got in. ahh good times.
oh shit google cache to the rescue. The domain changed but the hilarious stuff is still there. I think I changed my name to myg0t rpsux or something during this one.

Semi-Serious and Serious.
Mainly play on the FearlessRP and TnB (specifically HL2) communities.
Only complaint I really have on either is the lack of players on TnB. And they charge $40 for a premade custom model.
Anything I can easily grief in.
