I tried searching through garry'smod.org but the tutorials are either broken or useless. Anyone know where I can physically download PHX3 either through SVN or whatever I have to use.
thank you, do you know how to install all that shit? all the tutorials were too complex and it'd be nice if someone can make it easier for me to understand.
Download TortioseSVN > Right click on Addons > SVN Checkout
Yeah, really hard shit right there.
Here's it in addon zip form. [link]
You'd think that they'd just release the damn pack by now, it's been in 'development' for years, they haven't added any new models in the past year.

I beg to differ.
This would do the job. Note that G-Addon has a hidden "wget" program. My AV (ESET Smart Security 4) has seen it as a false positive.

...and?
WGET is probably the best download manager available. There's no reason that it should be considered dangerous, so I'm confused as to why you added that.

The first time I seen the AV popup saying it's a virus, it scared me a little... I just wanted to say that it's a false positive. It's not a virus. It's clean and useful.

Please don't post non svn links. It's nice you'd like to help but people have to learn to use svn.
No, people have to learn that SVN is not a distribution method.

I don't understand what you mean.
Elaborate.

Its useful for stuff like Wiremod but not for PHX.
Its useful for stuff like Wiremod but not for PHX.
If there's SVN for it, use it, that's what I think.

SVN is designed to be an in-house version control system to make collaborative programming projects easier to manage, and for blame to be pointed for bad code.
It is not designed to transfer anything other than text documents, and it is not designed to be used to give out content because the author is too lazy to set up a proper download system.
The zip I posted is updated from the PHX SVN every 4 hours (it does other SVNs like Wire and Stargate) and is fact a far superior method of getting updates, as it doesn't give you the higher load times and excessive file sizes large SVN'd addons do from all the previous version information stored in the .svn folders.

Moderately relevant.
And it suddenly became up to you how people should distribute thier addons? If they wish it to be only distributed by SVN, what makes it your right to decide otherwise?
Did I say that anywhere?
I have merely explained why SVN is a shit distribution method and provided a much better alternative.
Did I say that anywhere?

an alternative when they said they do not wish it uploaded anywhere else.
Where exactly does it say that?
The fact they are preety venement against it being not reuploaded, even says so in text file in the download, or has that been removed from your glua copy?
I've no idea, I don't use it myself. I downloaded all the models ages ago, and since they haven't had any meaningful updates for a year or more, I haven't bothered to download the trivial lua updates.
Even if it does say it there, I don't particularly care. This is the internet. If you do something stupid on it (like using a source code versioning system for model distribution), people will tell you and if it's inconvenient enough make their own workarounds. This is a particularly elegant one.
Stupid in your opinion, does not mean ignoring what the creator wishes is okay
I prefer convenience to moral superiority.
I prefer convenience to moral superiority.
Yeah the convenience of downloading periodically, and unzipping and copying, versus, well one click and waiting yeah I can see.
Sorry for how long this reply took, you know how shit SVN is. :v:
Anyway. Which out of these two do you think it is more convenient to download?

Bearing in mind that SVN tends to average about 50kb/s and max out at 200kb/s, whereas the zip is a straight HTTP download from a sharing server limited only by your connection.
Seeing as uncompressed that goes to about 700 meg, much less a difference, Unless Gmod can read zips now?
And just like everything else, SVN is depenedent on your connection, and the connection of the server connecting to, I have had speeds of over a megabyte from it, from a good server, whereas the one time I tried glua? couldn't get over 20 kps.
[editline]12:00AM[/editline]
oh and comparing the size of a zip to a uncompressed folder? yeah nice going, you have to download that zip each time there is an update. with SVN, suprisingly enough, last update I only had to download 5 meg.
[editline]12:07AM[/editline]
If someone wants a good way to update, through SVN, I suggest :
http://www.tezzanator.net/2009/12/31/gmod-svn-auto-updater-2-0-beta/ , it will download using SVN, but also clear the .svn fluff, it gives the advatages of SVN (only downloading what has changed etc, without having a bigger folder.
My point is, SVN doesn't download compressed.
If PHX ever updated, you'd have a point. However, since it doesn't, a first time user will find a straight 190MB zip a hundred times more useful than a 1GB SVN download.
That's why gmod.org gives you zip files, not SVN links.
Even then, if you happen to want to SVN update your phx instalation, glua.net provides a file you can unzip into your addon folder and it makes it a valid SVN.
Can you two continue this conversation in PM? You're keeping this thread on the front page.

I have Phoenix-Storms on my friend list, he said he's keeping the SVN so he can add models easily.
