• I'm having serious trouble with any addons
    3 replies, posted
I have read and followed the troubleshooting tips in the "Help & Support" thread and I still can't get Gmod to recognize any addons I've downloaded. Any of them with the info.txt files I have added to the directory specified in the thread noted above. PHX is the addon I NEED the most. Any help would be greatly apprechiated. Does the whole addon file need to be within the Gmod folders or is it just the info.txt files? I have tried several different ways and everytime it is as if I never downloaded them. Sorry for the poor explanations, I'm pretty new to PC gaming and you guys use such confusing terminology. Thanks EDIT: What is my avatar meant to be? I can see the sunglasses but what is wearing them? (Just for giggles)
Does the whole addon file need to be within the Gmod folders or is it just the info.txt files?
You need the whole addon folder. For example, with PHX3 you would have something like addons/phx3/info.txt and addons/phx3/models/<bunch of files> and some other folders into addons/phx3/. The addons folder is located into your Steam/steamapps/<youraccount>/Garrysmod/garrysmod/ folder.
What is my avatar meant to be?
you guys use such confusing terminology.
no we don't it's just console types use such basic terminology :saddowns: Anyway, the entire folder goes in addons. Unless there isn't an info.txt, in which case you merge the "models" and "materials" or whatever folders with their counterparts in steamapps/username/garrysmod/garrysmod
Thanks both of you, you have solved my problems. If you're ever in the South of England let me know and I shall buy you a pint.
