GMOD no show in Steam

So I recently got Half-Life 2 for my PC (had it for original Xbox before, but my bro lost the CD) and I've heard good stuff about Garry's Mod, so I downloaded it and installed it. Yet it doesn't show up in my Steam? I just have Half-Life 2. So my questions are,

"Do I need Half-life 2, Half-Life 2:Deathmatch, and Counter Strike: Source to use Garry's Mod?"

And

"Is there something extra I have to do to get Garry's Mod to show up in steam?"

Which version, Gmod 10 or Gmod 9?

If it's GMOD 9, just restart Steam.

I've tried restarting Steam. And yes GMOD 9.

Buy the proper version. FYI, both need hl2, or another source game.

All other versions but 10 are unsupported.
