i remember the early days of gmod when i excelled at doing... stuff, and knew what was what and etc. then came lua, and i kinda screwed around there, decided it wasn't for me. Then i didnt use steam for about a year. I buy gmod 10. two years later, i actually start it up for the third time (college sucks) and here i am. my question(s): wth is wiremod, it sounds interesting and very complicated, where can i get it and how do i use it? what's this "SVN" acronym about? i see SVN versions of everything everywhere, and the wiki doesn't help at all, all i know is that it has something to do with addons...... what are some essential mods i should get to make myself awesome again? PS) i've tried using search, but everytime i do the forum thingy just tells me search is disabled. [EDIT] CRAP! i thought i was posting in the newbie questions forum... shit, lemme see, how do i move this.......
Wrong section bro Gmod help forums are that way ---> [editline]05:41PM[/editline] Wait how on earth did you post this in releases?
i honestly have no idea. i mixed up my firefox tabs...... how do i move this post??
Ask a mod.
Learn parenting before you learn anything else. That and weighting your stuff correctly. Then learn wiremod. Then you're hot bananas.
[QUOTE=kp3;21328382]Learn parenting before you learn anything else. That and weighting your stuff correctly. Then learn wiremod. Then you're hot bananas.[/QUOTE] well, i'm already really good at weighing things. i can do it in meters, pounds, megatons, etc.... now by parenting, are you implying that i must learn how to be a good father or is this some sort of reference to another gmod mod that i've never heard of? [editline]02:59PM[/editline] oh good, my post's been moved. thank you, whichever moderator helped
SVN: [url]http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=688324[/url] Wiremod is an addon for Gmod. Its initial purpose was to allow you to communicate mathematics between entities using wires (lines drawn between the entities). However, since Expression 2 was created, most people just do everything inside E2 instead (like me :)). It's extremely useful, as it lets you create stuff like automated turrets, multifloored elevators, etc with ease. Creating an automated turret is completely impossible without Wiremod. Download Wire with SVN. By weighing stuff he means you must learn to use the Weight Tool (an addon) to correctly balance your contraptions so that they don't fail as much. Parenting is a term used in the source engine. Basically what it does is it "parents" a prop to another prop. Parented (or child) props are attached to their parent, unlike welding. Welding is not perfect. If you push a welded prop with another prop, you will see that it "bends". Now, what parenting does is it removes all physics from the child prop (making it not collide with anything, not even the world). This makes the server not have to calculate any physics for that prop, which makes the prop cause absolutely NO lag for the server. Parented props do not "bend" like welds, and keep up with their parent ALL THE TIME. Parenting is useful for detail. You build the body of your car (ie parts that MUST be on the car in order for it to be able to drive), and then you add DETAIL props (ie props that do NOT need to be there in order for the car to work). You can then parent the detail props to the body and the car will only lagg as little as if you were only driving around with the body, and the details weren't there. You could create a giant space ship with 5000 props and have it lag only as much as 1 single prop - if you parent all props to one. Remember: you can't parent (for example) wheels. Because parenting removes physics, the wheel would no longer be able to turn (or collide with the world at all, for that matter). Unparenting a prop is possible, but hard. You'll need to use Expression 2 or a tool especially made for it.
Well, your computer still needs to calculate and render it. And Divran, when and how did you become a Gold Member?
