For those of you who don't know what Fatal Frame is, it's a game in which your only weapon is a camera that you use to 'exorcise' ghosts. The game forced you to get up close and personal with things you otherwise wouldn't want to, then take one or two pictures of it before you're able to get rid of it for good. It was like 'Pokemon Snap', except scarier. And you couldn't throw apples.
I'd like to somehow see this implemented into a multiplayer gamemode, with all the perks of the real Fatal Frame. (i.e., third-person view until you hold up your camera, a toned-down inventory system, etc) The idea was to create a normal deathmatch game with a twist. The ghosts would face against humans, and the humans would have one or two randomly picked players that use the camera, depending on how many people are playing. Ghosts would be able to do things like take over props (and players), become near-invisible, generally attack the humans... While the players attempt to tug the ghosts out of the props, reveal them, and hold them still long enough for the 'cameraman' to take a picture of them, thus killing them. Perhaps the humans could turn into ghosts once they die.
The human team shouldn't have very advanced weaponry; a crowbar, maybe pick up a pistol, and a low-battery flashlight that reveals the ghosts. The ghosts wouldn't do very good with their own intangible hands, so taking control of props, players, and manipulating the environment would be their strong point.
To take control of the players, they may have to build up something of a 'rage' meter by hitting players, before they're able to temporarily possess someone. Perhaps that part of the game would work like Terrorist Town; nobody knows if someone else is possessed.
Just another epiphany that I had earlier today. Is this a good idea? A bad one? Does it give -you- an idea for something similar?
I hated that game, not because it was bad, but it was scary as all fuckin' hell. I'd like to see someone make a gamemode like that.

Wow this is actually a really great idea! While I was never a huge fan of the game, it was still fun to play.
I've researched the Fatal Frame series and this definitely sounds fun, since there's gonna be teams. That said, the maps may not be the easiest part of this.
