The Problem
---------------
GMod opens and gets to the loading screen with G-MAN with the cone on his head, and then Vista gives me a "HL2.exe has encountered an error and needs to close" message and forces me to close. I don't know why it's doing this, I have The Orange Box and CSS installed, the Source SDK installed (both Base and Orange Box versions) and only got GMod there yesterday along with CSS, I've played CSS in order to make sure everything's downloaded and ready to use.

I think that's about everything covered as regards my system and what's happening with it. If it also makes any difference, I have my pre-load of Borderlands paused before opening Garry's Mod.
yea i had this problem with HL2 but i simply re-installed the windowns and it started to work!
(windows Vista sucks XP is much better!!!)
Any other way except for a complete system restore? I really wouldn't be in the mood for doing a fresh Vista install, and I'm still deliberating upgrading to Windows 7 as well.
Put "-dxlevel 81" in launch options. I had the same problem because I too have a 4 series GPU.

Thanks for the help, worked like a charm. Bloody Intel graphics >_>
Eh, mine works just fine on most of my games. Only complaint has been having to run Garry's Mod on DirectX 8.x.

Yeah I was thinking that because The Orange Box and CSS work just fine the way they are, it's just GMod that has that problem.
