I've been downloading mods and ragdolls for a while now, and finally i feel like making some! But what programs do i use, and how?
What I started with is Advanced Duplications
Here's some instructions if you need them
1. Make your model
2. Take out your Advanced duplicator
3. Right click your model
4. Hold "c" and save it
5. Exit GMod
6. Go to your gmod folder, go into data then into adv duplicator
7. Copy the text file with the name you called your dupe model
8. Make a folder and call it your models name
9. Paste your model in there
10. Add it to archive and make it a .zip file
11. Upload it.
Done :D

Don't listen to this guy, Advanced dupes suck and clog up the site.
I'm pretty sure you can find something telling you how on the modeling or skinning boards.
You'll need a 3d modelling program, an image creation program and a shitload of knowledge, ragdolls have to be rigged also.
I don't know exactly what programs are required for Source (nor do I give a fuck right now) so you'll need to do some extensive googling or asking about.
Plus alot of free time.
Anyways, How d you get out your advanced duplicator after you download it? I just extracted it into Data and i have no idea what it does!
Advanced duplicator goes in your addons, and it's a tool, but don't listen to me, advanced duplications suck...
Not to mention I said, I started with advanced duplications
XSI Mod Tools
try that
oh hey thanks for using that little search tool up there, it is'nt like there 40 other threads like this.
butthurter is right, advanced duplicator only saves a bunch of welded props.
He is aking for making a model from a 3D sofware which i dont know.

XSI Mod Tools is a MOD TOOL, not something to make stuff for gmod.org

The .zip is a compressed file for when you upload it to garrysmod.org, it needs to be a compressed zip file.

XSI Mod Tools can be used to make models for garrysmod, and things on gmod.org are indeed mods.
Try Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, or Hexagon.
Blender is free.
Maya is fairly pricey.
3DS is even more expensive.
and Hexagon is fairly cheap.
All are powerful with practice and tutorials.
