Garrysmod wont start - Garry's Mod

Hello i recently got a hard drive failure and i had to change it, and with the oppurtuity i installed windows 7. I have direct x 11 and i am werry certen i have all my graphic's drivers are installed correctly. i saw there was an update on the source enigne, and when i start garrysmod, it says : "Preapearing to start Garry's Mod" then it goes animation and the message box goes away and the mouse animate loading ring, but then NOTHING happends, this is where garrysmod actually should start. I have tryed with other source engine games too but the same happends. please help, i have friends that use the garrysmod on windows 7 and have no problem. In your youtube video, you show Counter strike source still downloading. Garry's mod uses models and things from Counter strike source, so you'll probably want to leave that to finish until you run Garry's mod

yes, it appears you don't really have a source game fully installed therefore no scripts that are necessary to run the source engine. wait till it's 100% on css and then your $10 investment into the Gfund will be up and running quite well (hopefully)

That doesn't mean that you've to [b]run[/b] a source game once, you just need to have it installed, downloaded and ready to play. Just tested it myself.

yeah well its done now , eny other source game wont work aiter .. cant start CSS, same happends. please i will die without gmod

If CSS doesn't work either it sounds like the problem might be with steam. Try closing steam, and open the steam folder and delete ClientRegistry.blob then restart steam.

It might be a different filename, but that is the requirement.

i have run evrything i have, and the same happends with all games

It might be a different filename, but that is the requirement.[/QUOTE] You're wrong, go in your steamapps and delete all files but the cache files ".gcf", start steam and ONLY run Garry's Mod, you'll find out that it works just fine without running any other source game. For me it launches and mounts all my games without any problems, hl2, css, ep1, ep2, hl2dm, hl2lc, hldms, dod.

it dosent help, i cant run any source game, so the steam support will have to do something or i wont live much longer ;S

Everyone, stop ignoring him and fighting and just try to help instead of being idiots. Milo, if you're unable to run another game, your graphics card might not be good enough to handle Windows 7's shiny effects and a source game, but I've skimmed over the OP a few times and there isn't a graphics card listed, and you appear to be on a notebook, so I doubt your graphics card would be good enough anyway.

Milo, you might want to left click on your game and select options, now click on "launch options" And type in this "-dxlevel 90" first, if it still doesn't launch try "-dxlevel 81" But the way I hope you're not referring to notebooks in general as being unable to play games :)

The dv6000 is more than good enough to run Garrys Mod, TF2, L4D and so on. Like Vadox says: 1 - Open your Steam games list. 2 - Right click on the source game you want to use. 3 - Choose "Properties." 4 - Choose "Set advanced launch options..." 5 - Type in: [i]-dxlevel 81[/i] 6 - Press "Ok". 7 - Start the game. 8 - Do this for every Source game you own.

It's really depending on what model he got if he can play it or not. I wouldn't say that it's [b]more than good enough[/b] to run Garry's Mod if it must run at dx 8.1, you'll experience a lot of graphical issues and expect low frame rates. But do as paul mentioned, and you'll hopefully be able to run it.

The Aero On win 7 i have turend to minimal, so that only the good stuff is on. not the fade and all that crap. thanks fortrying, nothing worked ( since you spend your time saying that my pc cant handle the game) Please come with more suggestions

yeah, gmod worked fine when i had vista! and win 7 is supposed to be better than vista, and it is .. but not on this fornt .. :(
