The Gmod I once knew is dead. - Garry's Mod

Is it just me, or is the Gmod many of us once knew...dead? Remember back a few years ago when server's had friendly players, the Gmod updates rarely had any noticeable glitches, and the game was all around more stable? Then the toybox was released, and it was pretty cool. Until the four year olds came. Then all creativity was overrun when they started posting ragdolls without posing, pointless containers & vehicles, broken addons and awful grammar. And by this time servers were flooded with angry players, trolls, and four year olds as well. And then the Gmod 13 beta was released. It seemed pretty cool at the time, but I didn't really use it because it was glitchy and Gmod 11 still had all my addons. But surely the glitches would be fixed at the full release of Gmod 13, right? Nope. When it was released it was basically exactly the same as the beta except for some new features here and there, and just as glitchy. Start menu freezes, the game shuts itself off without reason, broken textures, you name it. And the workshop went the exact same direction as the toybox did. ragdolls without posing, pointless containers & vehicles, broken addons and awful grammar. And when the Gmod 13 release came, all the addons I knew & loved broke. Leaving the game boring. Sure, people have uploaded fixes on the workshop, but it'll never be the same. And did I mention the new spawn menu look? In my opinion it looks awful compared the the old Gmod 11 look. And I figured, "Hey, it was just released. Of course there are glitches. I'm sure Garry will fix them within a few updates." Well guess what? There have been 16 updates since the release of Gmod 13. And most of those glitches are STILL around. And every time a glitch is fixed, three more glitches seem to take it's place. So let me sum up what is wrong with Gmod these days: Glitch galore, dumb players, useless workshop addons, broken updates, and all the addons I once knew & loved are now broken in what now seems like a completely different game. Honestly, I wouldn't mind losing all my old addons if Gmod 13 had SOMETHING good to offer. So Garry, please try harder to fix your game. Because all you're doing is messing it up.

the dumb players have always been there, but it seems like they've been showing up alot more after the toybox expansion. before toybox i'd see servers with maybe one or two children and a few others. the children were usually polite, if not a bit annoying. now when i log on it's almost only kids, with maybe one other normal player. it's all darkrp servers and on them all i see are 6 year olds buying guns and rdming a bunch. the rare build server i join is just a bunch of cargo containers welder together with a few chairs inside, and it's a house. some kid is just driving around in a jeep, and some others are only screwing with the adv dupe. it just feels like there's no creativity anymore

Oh please. This melodramatic crap is not going to fix anything. If you like this game enough you'll find ways around the limitations and bugs to make it work. It's always been buggy, and it was even buggier before, updates were just less frequent. And while, true, garry often breaks a lot of shit, if you're not working your way around it you're not gonna manage anything.

GMOD's current community is still one of the best, with only maybe TF2 beating that. Sure there are annoying children, but they are children. Children like games..

Gmod and TF2's communities have changed very much, arguably for the worst.

Pretty much the consummate beauty server I always go is called GMOD Tower, it was getting more popular and popular only because of Youtubers making videos of it, I was OK with that. until the server got unplayable because of the lag and kids spamming "GO SUITE 10 FOR COOL WACKY LETZ PLEIZ XD". But writing a text about it won't make Garry restore everything. its not going to work, trust me.

The game was only ever decently stable on the old version of the engine, AKA before even GMod 12.

This summer I am going to create a server for those above the age of 16. Those below will be banned. It will also be facepunch only. My server had a good reputation but I was lacking the money to keep it up. [editline]8th April 2013[/editline] As far as stability, the game is still coming out of the beta stages. I'm sure it will become a lot more stable and updates will slow.

Yogscast did a video on it and it got fucking raped so hard by all the kids trying to connect, so much that it was pretty much down for several days straight and a second server had to be set up. Though I usually just queue up for Ball Race or Chimera Hunt and just alt tab out so I don't have to see the chat.

As a dude who played from gmod7. Yes, gmod is fucked. It became fucked when everyone decided to either run RP, sandbox, or TTT. There's no original game modes like I remember, hell I was a head admin for 5 years for a custom hoverskate game mode, what ever happened to prop hunt?? What about the Ace combat gamemode?? There's more I could go on, but really it's getting stagnant. One thing I saw was a huge decrease in was those who knew how to actually code Lua. Remember when the Lua section was a bunch of cool addons and tools instead of request threads? Now everything is unoriginal because no one knows how to code the damn language.

Remember the dismemberment mod? I would kill to play on a spacebuild 1 server, sometimes the simpler gamemodes are the best.

Judging from the amount of communities that went from awesome to shit (Minecraft, Garry's Mod, TF2, etc.), it seems to be impossible to start a community that [u]isn't[/u] going to turn into shit.

One of the main parts of learning is fixing the errors you run into. I don't know what happened. All the amazing coders left, like rabid toaster and many others.
