Gmod wont verify

ok so i reinstalled gmod today to play with a few old buddies, went to download addons and i saw the verify thing, i was like, ok, followed the process, but it keeps saying

We found your steam account and found the code - but it appears that you don't own Garry's Mod.
This means:
• You are mistaken and have verified the wrong account?
• You have pirated Garry's Mod (You didn't pay for it, you have downloaded it illegally).

i have not pirated GMod,

wasnt sure wether to post this in the help and support section or the garrysmod.org section
