Hi there facepunch. I've been a loyal Gmod fan since Gmod 9.
This was always my number one favorite game of all time, hands down, no questions asked. However recently (over the course of the past year and a half) I've noticed that the community hasn't been releasing any innovative and kickass mods.
All I see on Garrysmod.org nowadays are the same old model packs (not that I'm knocking PHX 3, it's one of the best model packs out there) sweps, crappy adv duped forts and worthless contraptions. Once in a while a nifty map comes out but what good is a map without a kickass gamemode to back it up?
Now before you start flaming, I'm well aware of the fact that there's constantly new things coming out. But when was the last time we had a REALLY awesome release on gmod.org? The last thing I can remember that totally blew my mind was spacebuild.
I'm disappointed, guys. We were the sickest, most epic gaming community out there. We were the guys who utilized the source engine to create things beyond valve's wildest dreams. We were the gaming community that made up Garry's mod. That was the difference between this game and all the other games out there: The community MADE this game what it is today! (Obviously Garry did a little dabbling here and there but you know what I mean) We had the creative spark, the flames of creativity. What happened, guys?
I ask you this: restore my faith. Maybe I'm just an idiot who can't find anything worthwhile because I'm looking in the wrong places. If you see fit, feel free to link me to(or even just provide the names of) your favorite fairly new releases. Mods, maps, gamemodes, models, whatever. I don't want to let this game go it was such a big part of my life in high school. Prove me wrong, guys.

Spacebuild ain't that cool. Just look at sakrias's stuff, maps, wire and phx, and some unique sweps not done before, just look at my gmod.org account. But i do think roleplaying is destroying gmod, mostly because most servers out there are dark rp severs, which are usually filled with mings, high ping, and terrible admins. I think that needs to stop, but when it comes to creations, there's some cool stuff out there.
If you're disappointed with the amount of unique custom content, make some.
I know what you mean, I hope the Fretta contest will spark some interesting gamemodes
Not ripping on Wiremod or Sandbox (yet I have before), but there are shitloads of gay servers where you go on, everyone ignores you because they're writing the same E2 Chips you've seen a million times before, and the same contraptions are floating around..
Now I've seen some amazing E2 chips and contraptions that do some awesome things in Spacebuild. But they're so rare..
But I guess not all good things last.
I have seen stuff that is pretty good out there. An E2 chip that lets you control NPCs directly, a V-22 Osprey that actually flies perfectly, and Sakaria's stuff. As for mods, Silverlans latest release of Half Life Renaissance will be amazing.
The NPC control addon is amazing. I love to control one NPC while walking in a mansion with zombies, it's like Resident Evil! :D

A wise point, one that I knew someone would bring up.
However, I'm about as good at coding as the Geico cavemen are funny. By the time I manage to learn how to make something that doesn't suck Gmod11 will be out. :)
As far as wiremod goes, it's an excellent mod.... for finding complicated ways to do something that could easily be done with regular constructions tools.
Sakarias definitely has some interesting content, but it's usually just the same old shit. Nifty little sweps or gizmos that are kinda cool and sometimes actually have a useful purpose or two, but that isn't exactly the kind of innovative content I was talking about.
Yeah, there is new content coming out, I never denied that. But when was the last time something REAAALLYY fucking sick came out? I think it's time for a new PHX model pack, or something of the sorts.

I'm actually learning Expression 2 right now, and I'm amazed at all the possibilities you can do with it and its not even that hard to learn, cause theres some great tutorials on the Wiki and youtube.

I actually had an idea for a spacebuild-based zombie survival type gamemode but I wouldn't even know where to start with creating a whole gamemode
