Microphone does not work in Garry's mod (Or tf2 for that matter)

so, i have made sure that my push2talk key is V, and when i press V my icon shows up in top left.
when i try to click the voice test thing in the voice options, it doesn't hear anything.
i made sure my mic is un-muted.
i have made sure i have gain-booster on.
when i try to talk in-game, no one hears anything at all, not even static.
i am using a Logitech USB headset.

can anyone help me, and please not treat me like a noob or tell me to get new headset?

Are you sure your mic works in Sound menu? In Windows RMB on speaker logo on the right bottom of your screen, choose Playback Devices and it should up open up a menu with Playback, Recording, Sounds and Communications on top. Choose Recording and make sure your microphone is actually on.

i'm sure it works with the system as it works with skype, but idk, this may even be an issue on steam's part, because i can't even voice in steam private chat (outside of games)

i looked up "microphone does not work with steam" on google, i found a steamcommunity post about it and it said that if my USB was plugged in front, i should swap it to back, so i did that and now i shall test it in game.
