I want to run Gmod in the backround and hear ingame noises

What the title says. I want to be able to alt tab out of Gmod, but still hear ingame noises. I'm an admin to a server, and sometimes I like to take a break. But then all kinds of douchefaggotry happens, and admin action is delayed. Is there a way that I can run Gmod in the backround and play Minecraft to relax, and yet be able to jump into action when needed to rescue damsels in distress from being RDM'd/trolled by a player using an exploit.
I made this post ingame, so if I don't make any sence it's because I had to tab back to the game like 20 times, I apologize.
Run Garry's Mod in a window. Then keep it off in the corner.
Tried that, the sound still cuts out.
Oh right. I don't think there's a way to do that since it seems that all Source games do it.
Add -w 1024 -h 768 -noborder to your GMod launch options?

Just got home from school, taking this for a spin but I don't think it'll work, the sound will still cut out when I click out of Gmod.
Edit:
Yep, sound still cuts out. I accidentally alt tab of Gmod and the noise doesn't cut out on me ALL THE TIME on accident, and I can't get it to work when I'm doing it on purpose. Figures. Anyone else have any ideas?
This is something Windows does for all programs unless the software is programmed otherwise. I really don't see why you want the background annoyances if you are planning to do something else while the game is mimimized.

I want to take a break from playing, but not from administrating the server. I want to be able to hear the player's mics, so if someone gets RDMed I can come in and bring the problem to a resolution, quickly.
