Opportunity: Free small Garry's Mod server for promising starter. - Garry's Mod

Hi. For those interested, I have an opportunity for those who wish to start their own GMOD server/community but can't/ dont want to pay for a server. Recently I've purchased a VPS for several projects I have been working on. Mainly SVN- and SQL databasing along with the freedom to host whatever. However I found I haven't really been using it much, approximately for 10% of its capability. Which is a shame. Therefore I hope to share some of my hosting capacity with one or two Facepunchers. It's not a very big cake to eat from, but it's an OK starter server for those who want to see if their plan/ambitions would work. As well as you can gain donation on the way to fund your own server. Despite the fact I'm giving it away for free, I'd like to grant it to those who have an actual vision and plan. Someone with ambition and who wants to put work into it. This so it's worth giving away instead of sponsoring some random guy a server for the purpose of 'OMG ME AND MY FRIENDS WANT TO BUILD NOW AND THEN!!'. I see a bunch of enthusiasts come by the forum on a daily, so I doubt that's going to be hard to find. To be fairly honest, those server specs ain't gonna be able to handle more then 16 players before lagging straight to hell. Depends on the Gamemode too.

Hey Scottie! I'm already on your friends list on steam as Nate, and we talked about working on one of my projects with me. Anyway, I would like to use this VPS for a small test server for the project and also I would like to make a fun little sandbox server. I'm 19 years old, and I am not gonna say I deserve it more than a bunch of 12 year olds, but I hope this will help me continue my work. Thank you :)

I'm eh, a 16 year old and I've been setting up a locally hosted (As in on my PC) server for Gmod. As you can imagine that's not exactly optimal, seeing as my connection is about as fast as a donkey covered in Gabe's. I understand that DarkRP is not exactly on your nice list of game modes, and it's pretty darn obvious it's not even close to being mediocore in terms of an RP experience, but I personally perfer it over a more serious RP Gamemode such as Clockwork's HL2:RP or some variant due to the fact that it doesn't take 6 hours to find the most basic of materials. I understand that this would probably be the "Nope" point for you during reading this, but I figured I might as well give it a shot anyway. Currently the only servers hosting SCars for DarkRP are located in Germany, at least, in terms of the public server list. I know in terms of model quality, TDM Cars tends to be nicer, but I like Sakarias' damage system. I perfer making my own cars using the editor over using car packs, so the only one I have on my current set up is SCars Slim. For weapons I perfer making said weapons my self due to the fact that weapon bases/addons like M9K is intensive on resources and are a bit over powered. I don't believe in donator classes and/or unrealistic things such as "Donate 10$ to get a super mega ninja with ultra nuke/ban hammer cannon that kills everything ever!". I like to keep things simple and realistic. And lastly for this section I wanted to mention that I can fix most LUA errors and keep the console from getting spammed. I also know how to operate STEAMCMD and Srcds. Why do I think I deserve this above others, well to be honest I don't think I deserve this above others. I would like this opportunity to see how I would do at operating a small server since I can't normally afford to rent one out because I don't have a job yet (The closest major city is 30 miles away from my house.) and no one else besides Nate has applied yet. Additional info: I understand that your server is located in Germany, but ping usually isn't an issue for me over long distances. (I know I've said in other threads that I have a shitty connection, but what I mean by that is my KB/S Down is relatively slow and that my ISP is prone to time outs).

You can have a CPU with 10 cores at 1.2 Ghz and a server would perform better on a CPU with 2 cores and 2.6 Ghz as SRCDS isn't [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multithreading_(computer_architecture)"]multithreaded[/URL]. 3. 2GB RAM. You will be able to host a maximum of 2 and a ½ server as GMod servers can sometimes use up to 500 MB of RAM and Windows, the OS itself, uses almost 1GB. GL & HF.

The quality could be complete garbage and you still couldn't complain. I was just concerned because it looked to me like the PM's page was refusing to load because all I had was the side bar and default FP stuff up top.
