I currently have a ton of time to kill so i was just wondering, what was your favorite skill to learn pertaining to garry's mod? I was thinking about picking up mapping but i dont know if i have the resources at hand. I was also thinking about learning lua. any advice? where should i start?
Mappings my best skill, no releases though. If you want to map, you go to Tools in the Steam menu, and download the Source SDK. Then you look at websites like: Valve Developer Wiki Half-Wit2.com Interlopers.net To help get you started. Hope that helps. Then of course, the Mapping Section is full of knowledge and help. Just don't release your first map/s, as they will most likely be your worst.
Lua is pretty basic i have been told. I suppose if you can get some basic tutorials you can teach yourself he basics and get more advanced with experienced. When I have a lot of time to kill I like to actually get on single player or a server and build, may sound stupid but i like to build realistic things like a waterfall with realistic sounds etc. I actually built a hour with just props and it looked great
Mapping and being able to learn the basic controls of a lot of popular video games. Also, being able to think outside the box to build something cool and being able to solve problems more easily.
what I need is a source to learn all of this, at this moment, I'm more than lost with gmod, and I'm not dedicating too much time into it either...

You can always practice being a hobo in a dark rp server.
mapping and lua :smug:
You should start by making little modifications in gamemodes, then make larger modifications. After that start tweaking more advance gamemodes, such as perp, cider, experiment (really hard to modify) and so on.
