This is just bizarre.
I had this problem a few hours ago. I couldn't connect to any internet server, at all. I would just keep receiving the 'Connection failed' message.
NOW, someone else on the same internet connection is copping this deal, and I am not. It's frustrating.
What causes this?
Her firewall is off.
She's played online before.

your firewall is stopping the game from connecting it may be off, but try adding the game to the list of exceptions
this happened to me with left 4 dead, i turned it off but it wouldn't let me through until i accepted it.

Also, Gmod is in the exceptions list.
