Hey, I'm thinking about buying Garry's Mod (very cheap game btw), but first I would want to know if I can run it and if it's not going to lagg with the following system specs : - Windows XP SP2 - Intel Core 2 Duo - 2Ghz processor - 1,50Gb RAM - ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 (256Mb) Do you think I can run it? If it laggs a bit I'll just set the graphics to the very minimum. Thanks !
Yes.
Yes.
Thank you :)
It says the minimum and recommended specs on the Steam page for it, I believe. Here:
Yes but sometimes some graphic cards are not compatible, for example my PC's system has got the requirements to run another game called Bloody Good Time, but it's graphic card (An intel one) is not compatible. (Another PC than this one)
I think you need more RAM. Garry's Mod needs a shitload of RAM. You'll probably still be able to run it anyways though.
1.5gb ram is fine. Although, 2gb ram is the way to go.
The more source engine powered games you have, the better. So make sure if you have the money to get the orange box.
Yes. Though an extra .5 GB memory would be nice. My laptop has a 2ish GHz dual core processor, ATI 1250 graphics chip, and 2 GB memory, though 256 MB of the 2 GB is given to the graphics chip. It can just about run gmod without too much lag (15 FPS average on low settings). It runs Vista, which is probably the biggest drawback.

my directX is 8.5 and runs garrysmod on medium-low graphics, but there are some things that you cannot do: kill gman (the blood effects overheat my pc) and use nukes and large amouns of bombs, probaly there are more things that overheat my pc, but i don't remember/too lazy to remember.

Get a new graphics card O_o, my average on High settings is in the 100s, and my computer really isn't amazing.

Make a shortcut on your desktop and make this its address: steam://hardwarepromo/305 [editline]14th December 2010[/editline] In case anybody's interested, here's the same promotion but for NVidia card users (again, create a desktop shortcut): steam://hardwarepromo/609
I had a Mac once with almost the same specs, and I ran it pretty good using bootcamp. Medium shadows. Very-High Textures. Low shaders. 8X AA No HDR.
Question: why do you have Windows XP SP2, when SP3 has been out since 08?
I had a Mac once with almost the same specs, and I ran it pretty good using bootcamp. Medium shadows. Very-High Textures. Low shaders. 8X AA No HDR.
You'd trade low shaders for 8X AA? And I really doubt that.
You will have to make it look like half life but it will run. Comp would explode if you met bare minimum requirements
You will have to make it look like half life but it will run. But I agree that with specs like this, you should start at the lowest settings at a low resolution and work your way up until you get to a point where it's playable, but if you go up a setting it becomes too jittery. On the brink, as it were.
