Basically I can't start a online server. You know when you start a game you can choose multiplayer. I don't know why but it only starts a LAN game. I make sure the local area network isn't check. I have tried sv_lan 0 heartbeat and just giving my friends my online IP. None have worked
have you forwarded/opened the ports required for hosting?
ports 27012-27016, first thing I did.

I dont know what fixed it i just put my laptop into dmz and it was working :D
Well I tried that but realized my true problem is it keeps starting in LAN. instead of an online.
I have sv_lan 0, so I don't understand why it keeps doing that. My friend had the same problem but he got his to work finally, I tried the same thing but it didn't work. When he first tried it was LAN, I tried to connect anyways and it said can not connect because it was a LAN game. All I know is mine just gives me server not responding. But I could see his game why is this? We both are using windows 7. But I doubt that matters since I have had this problem for years now. Its not just gmod. Most games don't let me make games and have people join.
anyone have any ideas?
