Hello folks! I've searched the web, and i couldn't find a satisfactory answer. So, i thought i would try Facepunch out with all you brainy people.. :)
I have been hosting Garry's Mod servers for a while. Generally from server providers like UKGaming, Elpishost, Artofwarcentral and so on..
Now i want to take the big leap towards a big nasty and mean dedicated server..
So i was wondering, for a heavily modded Darkrp server with approx 64 slots...
What SPEC's am i looking for in a dedicated server?(RAM,CPU etc.) and what should the internet speed (Upload/Download) be around?
Good day to you all out there!
The key spec you will be looking for is CPU... memory and bandwidth will be adequate for any dedicated server with high CPU specs.
You will want to use this page to compare single threaded performance of CPU

Then start looking at hosts and what CPU they offer and how the single threaded performance compares.
Right now, I can tell you that NFO is hard to beat for the price with their E3-1270v3 processor dedis.
Thanks a lot.. What about the internet connection.. since i wanna have the Server at home.. how much up and down do i need? approx?

64 slots will generally use between 10Mbps and 15Mbps depending on bandwidth rates. I would not recommend hosting it at home unless you like being hit with 1Gbps-40Gbps+ attacks.
I know it not reconmmended.. but i dont wanna pay for a dedi.. then i rather pay for single server.. So to get the possible best out of it.. soo 10 down and 15 up.. i guess a 40/40 would be surfice.. :) Thanks for you help..

Right I'm just saying once you get hit with an attack your ISP is probably going to drop you.
It's your choice, nothing wrong with hosting from home -- as long as you understand that attacks do happen.
I do.. But i do think the chance is slightly bigger they attack a Dedi privider.. than little me.. :) in little cozy Denmark

No, all you do is ban someone (often for the right reasons) and they rage more and DOS you. Its the sad truth these days

They could care less about where the server is hosted.
