• Can't launch gmod

I've tried everything. The game window appears for 10 milliseconds, then crashes back to the game library. I've reinstalled steam, garrysmod, and redownloaded the content. I've updated all of my drivers, and everything else that can be updated. Nothing has worked. I do own a legal copy, and have played gmod fine for over 1115 hours. Help? :)
Well the only thing I can think of is that your computer sucks and you might need better RAM.
I have a Core2Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 Ghz with 8 Gigs of DDR2 RAM with an nVidia 9800 GT+ graphics card. I wouldn't say it sucks.
OS Reinstall would be the surest way.
:/ Have two full 500 gig drives, and not enough space to back all of that shit up.
Ignore this if you've tried it before, but you need to rename your steamname/garrysmod folder (gmodold or something), then "delete game content" in Steam and re-download the game. Don't copy your old files yet, just start the game vanilla. If that works, then move the renamed folder and DON'T replace anything. If it gives you that problem again, you know it's one of your addons.
I have a Core2Quad Q9550...
A quad core processor means nothing in GMod. It is LUA based, and LUA does not multithread. Try opening the NVidia control panel, navigating to "Manage 3D Settings", selecting GMod, and disabling "Threaded Optimization". This will force GMod to use only one core.
...with 8 Gigs of DDR2 RAM...
8GB is pretty useless for GMod unless you use a couple of console commands to allow GMod to use it.
//Taken from Quantum's Little Config. datacachesize 256 // GeneralDataCache in MB. Use 64MB for 1GB, 128MB for >= 2GB mem_max_heapsize 2048 //MAY CAUSE INSTABILITY. Maximum amount of memory to dedicate to engine hunk and datacache, dont user more then half of your Memory
If mem_max_heapsize ends up causing instability for you (and it shouldn't, because you have plenty of RAM to handle any background processes), try lowering it to 1536, 1024, and then 512 as instability persists. Don't set it lower than 256. Also, try to close Steam before GMod launches. It can take up a lot of RAM if it is left open while you play. I've also heard that adding "-32bit" to your launch options can help with compatibility and FPS on 64-bit OS's.
