HELP
Most people use Fraps.
Ohhhhh, wait. You've already recorded with Source Recorder, haven't you?

This is a great idea, if a 15 FPS, low-quality video is what you want.
If you want actual quality and do not want to make people's eyes hurt, follow these instructions:
1) Make sure you have several GB of hard drive space available. You can free it up after you are done, it's just that the files produced are pretty darn big
2) Record what you want to make into a movie
3) Go to Options and turn on Windowed mode
4) Open the console (~) and type "startmovie <name here> avi" without the quotes
5) A dialog box will appear. I generally use Microsoft video 1, but you can download codec packs such as the Xvid codec
6) Click OK
7) Type "playdemo <Demo name>" without quotes into the console
8) Wait. It will take a long time to record. It may appear to freeze or stutter, but this is normal.
9) After it is done, you should find it as an .avi file in the steamapps/<name here>/garrysmod directory
10) Import to your favorite video editing program. Save as whatever movie file format you want
11) Delete the old .avi afterwards, since it's massive.
12) Upload to youtube
It's more complicated, but the result is a flawless 30 FPS video, even if it had 1000 crates exploding at once. That's because Source records demos frame by frame, so no matter how slow the computer goes when you record it, it's great in the playback.

thank you a lot, i didnt know about the "startmovie" thing.
for small videos (i made some on l4d2), fraps is okay, but it really gets low framerate depending on what is going on. and if this method turns out smoth regardless of what you are recording, its well worth knowing.
I use the WeGame client. (wegame.com) it lets me record .avi for as long as i want. then i can upload it to wegame.com or i can take the file and upload it on youtube.
DO NOT USE FRAPS. it only lets you record for 30 seconds.
Or ... Instead of being cheap get WeGame which is much, much less complicated than Source Recorder and results in 1920 x 1080 Video, 1440 x 900 Video, or maybe 1280 x 720 Video, either way WeGame rocks !
BTW It requires Multi Core Rig.

Demo version is limited to 30 seconds, full version lets you record how much you want. And about WeGame, it's low quality and it has bad resolution.
I have Fraps full ver, I needed it when i was making wow videos.
But i find Fraps fine if you buy full version.
In Source games, I always use Source Recorder because I can slam everything to full and have glorious HD without any framerate problems. I use fullversion Fraps for games that do not have built-in movie support.
