Their basic idea of this gamemode was a winner. An idea that my lack of creativity (At times) would never have produced. Anyway I think I'll start off telling a bit about this idea called Naval Play. Information on SGC's Naval Play There's 3 teams: Pirate - The loner sailer of this quiet sea, to rob and bring fear into the eyes of their victims. Royal - The Royal navy serving the queen and slaughtering everyone in their path with their deadly tea sets! French - Yea you heard it, french peeps and they even bring an artist on board their ships! Disclaimer: Information given on the teams might not be so paradise-like in game Each team has it's own location/build zone. Pirates have their small island in one corner of the world, while Royal and French has a harbor in 2 differnet corners of the world. Then in the fourth corner, there's an oil rig, more on this later. Gameplay on SGC's Naval Play We're in the 17th century. You build a ship in your team's build zone (Or bring it from another server with Adv Dupe :D). Make sure it sails correctly and stays on the good side of the rules. Attach some cannons, load them (With cannons balls you silly fool!). Then go out on sea for either to find another ship to fight, or to gather oil. Pretty good gamemode Why make another one then? Simple, SGC absolutely failed. They have a poor economy system, an hour or less of gathering oil is enough for buying several cannons and keeping your ship loaded with cannon balls for a very long time, as well as poor-quality free cannon balls from the entity tab. They have a poor HUD, nothing special. They limit ships to 20 mph, they have a size minimum for ships, rules on cannons-based-on-size and a lot more. While having absolutely no moderation. People make small pirate ships that goes 30 mph, turns on a dime, 10 cannons pointing in 3 directions. They also failed on their menus, they are boring and repetitive and in fact they only have a MOTD that logs on to a website and a simple menu for buying stuff which then is made as a crate. People can also use toolguns outside their build zones, as well as physgun which brings prop surfing, pulling a huge oil tank to the spawn of the oil on the Oil rig. As well as people deleting their stuff and respawning it on the sea. Might as well put in that their server sucks, people minimum has 150 ping, and sometimes all 17 players reach 600+ with a huge physical lag (in on netgraph). And it doesn't help that nobody knows how to parent and simply smart welds their 50-prop ships together. Try the SGC Naval Play server your self if you do not get a dime of what I am saying My gamemode - Ocean Wars [Working title] My gamemode Ocean Wars will be in the heat of World War 2 (WW2). Bringing back good old' war ships and before aircraft carriers took over the market! 3 teams as well: Privateer - The privat ones, me and BlackDog knew we just had to add this Weapons: C96 - Automatic sidearm Springfield - Scoped medium-range rifle Allied - You really should know this one Weapons: M1 Garand - Semi automatic rifle Thompson M1 - Automatic medium size weapon Colt 1911 - Semi sidearm Axis - Gotta love those Weapons: Kar98k - Slow accurate rifle B.A.R M1918 - Medium damage high power MG P38 - Semi sidearm
Pac had a very great idea, and I have built off of it, going into more detail. I would just like to point out SOME of the features that will be presented in Ocean Wars.
Build Zones Pretty normal Restrict no-clip to build zones Toolgun/phys/grav gun are disabled outside of zones to promote reality Group Systems Voice chat between only groups & faction wide Automatically added to prop protection when you join a group(advanced dupe is not included) Dupe Protection Just because you're in a group doesnt mean people have access to duplicate your items/creations. A seperate menu is used for this) Map Different Islands per faction Neutral islands with certain materials/money that are accredited to a salary system per faction Random 'letters in a bottle' including goodies floating and chests on islands with materials/money A chance that while you're swimming you could be 'attacked' by a 'shark' Fishing Areas On certain islands you can buy poles, lines, hooks and bait from an NPC Multitude of different fish, chances for them to escape, chances your line breaks depending on weight of fish etc. NPC's Multitude around the maps. Especially in faction spawns. Buy/sell materials/products Economy Every item is based off of economy, materials etc. ie If your faction spawn doesnt have any hooks, you have to go get steel to make hooks. etc If there are less, the price is higher, if there are more the price is lower. Mixtures A lot of items are based off of mixtures, which are then sold to the economy or used for yourself. Resources Neutral islands give a certain amount of resources if held Oil, metal, gun powder, concrete, rope, rum etc - not specifically used for building(to not hinder the build aspect of this game. Also to stray from stranded) You can also buy all of these from NPC's You can 'rob' other factions resources every x minutes Upgrades Through a menu system you can increase the health of your boat for money/product 'Learn' how to aim for better accuracy Expirement and find more effective bullets for more damage etc Stats system
All stats, money and materials will be added to a off-server MySQL server, and backed up. We are very open to criticism, comments, or suggestions and would love to hear them! We want to make this a superb game mode. As said above, we are also looking for modelers and mappers to join our team, please add me on steam if you would like to talk to me about the game mode or joining the team. Steam: komarw11t
You're going to fail as many others have before... Karolis never finished Treasure Hunt Chief never finished Naval RP Red Death never finished WW2 Naval Naval Play pretty much set the ground of what you can, and can not do with water based warfare. Also...
Simple, SGC absolutely failed. No shit. They have a poor economy system, an hour or less of gathering oil is enough for buying several cannons and keeping your ship loaded with cannon balls for a very long time, as well as poor-quality free cannon balls from the entity tab. No shit once again. The gamemode is based on having creative fun though. They have a poor HUD, nothing special. Shinny glitter doesn't mean shit... Only to elitist, art freaks, and lua whores does it mean jack shit. They limit ships to 20 mph, they have a size minimum for ships, rules on cannons-based-on-size and a lot more. What? The speed limit is 25mph, the rules regarding "MAX SIZE 4X6, CANNONS DETER SPEED" were removed back in February when the High Flyers, and Naval Roleplay Dogfighters demanded with the re-introduction of aircraft a good majority of rules added during Mark Olsen's Era were to be removed. While having absolutely no moderation. Hey, if it wasn't for players bitching about Red Death, Karolis, and Myself doing our jobs we would still have mod/admin. People make small pirate ships that goes 30 mph, turns on a dime, 10 cannons pointing in 3 directions. You just counteracted your argument from earlier... Also the Powered Plague was a joke from Old Naval to regard why we should restrict speed, and size. They also failed on their menus, they are boring and repetitive and in fact they only have a MOTD that logs on to a website and a simple menu for buying stuff which then is made as a crate. Stop bitching about the 15 second wait... Just read the damn rules. People can also use toolguns outside their build zones, as well as physgun which brings prop surfing, pulling a huge oil tank to the spawn of the oil on the Oil rig. As well as people deleting their stuff and respawning it on the sea. Source Bans. Do you get it bitch? We've got shit in big red letters saying, "SEE A PLAYER DOING SOMETHING BAD? REPORT THEM ON OUR SOURCEBANS!" Might as well put in that their server sucks, people minimum has 150 ping, and sometimes all 17 players reach 600+ with a huge physical lag (in on netgraph). And it doesn't help that nobody knows how to parent and simply smart welds their 50-prop ships together. Hold on let me call Sympathy! Sympathy you don't want to talk to him? Why? Cause he doesn't realize Source Engine physics do not truly agree with water? Sympathy you're such a bitch!
I have to say... If you're just going outta your way to beat Naval Play you're going to fail just like many others have.

I do thank you for your post, even though all it says is that you're not going to make it.
More on the line... I'm stating, stop beating a dead horse.
More on the line... I'm stating, stop beating a dead horse.
So what you're suggesting is to bottle the creativity of many people because you are stereo-typing Scooby and I based off of other people that, I agree, did not finish their game-modes etc. I mean, it just seems like you want this to fail.
I just hate watching history repeat itself. If you can complete it then cool... I wish you luck on making it better. If you know you'll lose interest after you make your first boat then please rethink what your trying to do.
I'm Pac, and fuck off man.
It seems like you have learned from the mistakes done by others and if you do that correctly history wont be repeated.I also have to make one suggestion.Restrict advanced duplicator so players can make something original each time. With advance duplicator lets say I find a way to build the perfect boat all I am going to do is duplicate it in every game.
Don't listen to the furry... If you have the coders, go for it.

I understand that adv duplicator just makes it easy, but for certain things it's just fun to join and go! We may make Adv Dupe a 'respected' sort of tool. EvacX; If you really are Pac and you REALLY are still working on it, then add me on steam and lets talk about it. I gave you your full credits, used your ideas. I'll even change the name if you want...
Oh... By the way... Just to be a history ethusaist... The Axis didn't have the Browning Automatic Rifle. They actually considered it inferior to the STG 44.
We are dedicated to finish this gamemode, thats not the criticism we are looking for, try using constructive criticism instead.
How is that not constructive criticism? I'm just saying you guys need to check your history facts if you're aiming to be historically accurate.
More on the line... I'm stating, stop beating a dead horse.
Mister..Joe.. You beat horses off, You cannot criticize this man on his gamemode while you're doing so. I'm just saying you guys need to check your history facts if you're aiming to be historically accurate.
His underlining motive is to make a fun gamemode, Why did Assassins creed fail? They had it historically accurate and it still wasn't too fun. DERP THEY DIDN'T HAVE FUN BACK THEN. LETS REMOVE IT! [editline]11:17PM[/editline]
How is that not constructive criticism? I'm just saying you guys need to check your history facts if you're aiming to be historically accurate.
You do not beat off to anatomically correct animal figures, right?
What...Assassin's Creed was high on sales charts.... Also Jester... Stop beating to clown midgets, and we wouldn't have to argue about fetishes.
How is that not constructive criticism? Don't mind JoeSkylynx. He's just a nuisance. Are you guys working on everything at once or just starting out with the basics first? I really do recommend that your team starts out with a sort of skeleton GM. From there, you can tweak settings, then add new features as you progress. Plus you can show users the WIP in the forms of pictures/videos early on instead of waiting a long time. For maps, I suggest Harbor2Ocean: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=39621. It is a very large map, with 2 main identical bases (red/blue), oil rig and a basic island. Works good and possibly fits your needs for testing. Good Luck on the GM.

I believe that we have come to the conclusion that we will develop the game-mode in stages. The first being the basic skeleton of the gamemode, without mapping, models etc. Mostly due to the fact that we are lacking in the mapping/modeling department. After that we move onto the map developing and model developing until it is a 'finished' product. From there we just add and adjust as needed.

Why they're certainly more amusing than watching you squirm and bicker just to deliver a mediocre insult. I'm sure beating off to Clowns would be more widely accepted than breaking into puppy mills and jacking off, while dressed up like Tony the tiger. And, while Assassin's creed sold well people were not pleased with it. Just like your mother, Joe.

I'll see it in 3 weeks and see how it's going. If it dead weights well that blows if it moderately secedes and shows to be the better man out of the group of six then good for the devs,
Seceds? Well, I have some rather bad news for you Joe. Trying to put on a clever guise doesn't work when you're illiterate. Good day to you. :golfclap:
Oh... By the way... Just to be a history ethusaist... The Axis didn't have the Browning Automatic Rifle. They actually considered it inferior to the STG 44.
So, i'm just clarifying, they used the STG 44? I'd like to be as historically correct as possible :P Also, to add on. I have talked with Pac, the original game mode designer, etc. He has requested that we change the name and then go ahead and continue with the project. Within a few days I will be updating this post with a new name and maybe some screenshots of things :)
