First of all my Garry's Mod IS NOT pirated. Two days ago i noticed steam going down for maintenance but when it came back online my Garry's Mod doesn't go any further than the preparing to launch tab, it just disseapears within two seconds and absolutely nothing happens or appears, i've tried restarting steam and my pc. I havn't bothered to try other games except Counter Strike : Source which works absolutely fine.

Come to find out its ALL my source games that i cant play online, i can only play them in single player.
Usual things to try first, delete clientregistry.blob If that doesn't work, delete everything in your steam folder except for the steamapps directory, and steam.exe, then run steam.exe.
If deleteing cleitnregistry.blob in your steam main folder dosent work, rename garrysmod content.gcf to something else, this makes the game re-download(i have to do this after every update otherwise nothing works)
Tobba thanks i will try that let you know if it worked. [editline]06:53PM[/editline] Well i deleted the "Clientregistry.blob, restarted pc and steam, did not work, i changed the name of the content folder, restarted pc and steam still didn't work. Pissing me off these updates, i cant play any valve and gmod games online.
I have the same problem as OP. I had just reinstalled all of my steam games for an unrelated reason and it still doesn't work. Reinstalled a second time just for fun and still nothing. Tried the clientregistry.blob and still nothing. Anything you could suggest would be helpful. Edit: It is now fixed. I just deleted everything from my Gmod folder and reinstalled
Well i uninstalled all my games and steam then reinstalled steam and all the games and still same issue.
Well i uninstalled all my games and steam then reinstalled steam and all the games and still same issue.
Right click on Garry's Mod in Steam, and select "Properties". Click on "Set launch options", and in the box that pops up, type "-fullscreen". Garry's Mod should now operate normally. [editline]13:37[/editline] You too, goldstrum.
What would "-fullscreen" have to do with source games not playing online? It's not just GMod its all source games that won't play online. Even if it was just GMod what would "-fullscreen" have to do with it running online?
Didn't see your first post in this thread. Look, this is goldstrum's thread about his problem. You have a seperate, very different issue. For that, I would make a new thread, not hijack an existing one.
Long story short i fixed the issue. Had to reformat my PC! Thanks again steam and valve for another awesome update!
If that fixed it, there was definitely something else wrong with your computer. An Application rarely causes you to have to reformat, much more likely to be a corrupt driver or something
Well never any issues before, it was something to do with source, source games were the only games i couldnt play online, i could play all my other games i have on steam, like farcry2, cs 1.6, cs-cz, COD4, etc, just not any source games. Dont make sense to me, dont see how could have been a driver. But who knows, its fixed now, thanks
GMod is trying to launch at a resolution that is too low, most likely. Click on Start, then Run..., type in "regedit" (without quotes), and hit OK. Registry Editor should open. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\garrysmod\Settings. You should see what appear to be console commands the right. Find ScreenHeight and ScreenWidth and set them to your monitor's native resolution.
