I've been playing Garry's Mod since July 2009. All I used to play was Sandbox, until I found a community that hosted a variety of other game modes (but not sandbox :c).
So now I haven't played sandbox properly in about 2 years. I've tried a whole bunch of servers lately, but none of the ones I've tried has lived up to the servers I played on years ago.
I rarely see anyone build anymore, people just seem to prop spam, add thrusters to the HL2 Buggy, prop push people, or just generally minge around.
And the admins weren't much better on those servers. Last server I played on, the owner was online, but he didn't even seem to know anything about his own server. When asking him simple stuff (like "is this server 24/7?"), he responded with "I don't know". Also, servers nowdays seem to have about 100 unnecessary addons installed.
Back when I used to play sandbox more, it was actually possible to build something from start to finish, but nowdays I'm afraid someone will mess it up or crash the server, so I usually build everything in singleplayer.. but that's not as fun.

So, basically, I'm looking for a simple build server on gm_flatgrass (or a similar map, it has to be huge and open), with only the essential building addons:
Prop protection
Smart snap
Wiremod
Weight tool
Wenli's tools
Adv. Duplicator (1 or 2)
Those listed above are what's essential to me, but I don't mind if the server has some extra tools or addons, [URL="http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=248910728"]like those listed here[/URL] for example.
But I don't want to install any huge content packs, especially player models, or other things that's just for looks and doesn't serve a sandbox purpose.
If it's a pack of extra building models (like sprops) then I don't mind.
I don't mind if people have weapons, as long as you can toggle god mode (and in that case the server [I]should[/I] have the unbreakable tool, but it's okay if it doesn't).
Are there any servers like this anymore?
I've spent an entire week of my life searching for a half-decent non-TTT/RP server since I bought a computer that could run Gmod 13. I think we're out of luck here but I'll find some motivation to try again later.
Does fretta gamemodes even exist anymore?
I dont know if the aycerus build server is still up, but it should suit your needs (besides a 33 tick rate)

I only know of one high-standards community with their own serverbox, hosting ttt/gmr/flood/deathrun, but sadly not sandbox.. there has been talk about them hosting it sometime, but as long as it's not a reality I need to find something else :/.

I have a box with literally enough space to expand. Give me a workshop collection and I'll add it all and put a server up for you. Give you ULX admin and whatever, not like I need the space.

the SCars addons there aren't really needed, but some people like having preset cars.

Technically its a build to kill server, BUT! the admins on it are so bad, i got banned 6 times in a few days.. for killing..

You got banned because you didn't listen when you were told that blowing people up with e2 was against the rules and I don't even want to bring up whatever terrible reputation you have with the owner. Of course I mitigated those actions because I didn't think it was that much of a problem and you're a nice person, but don't lie about it.
As for Cyberuben. All the necessities that op listed are there. vip isn't necessary. noclip is accessed by using !build or asking an admin.

I have to agree though, paying for VIP to get access to basic gameplay apects such as noclip is completely messed up.
There's nothing wrong by having a donation system, but if you do, make sure you reward players with things they can not get otherwise, or have players donate because they actually like the server so much they want to support it. .. I'd rather play single player than not being able to use noclip/god/e2 in sandbox.
Ruben has been really awesome and is letting me manage the server, and I'm trying to make the best of it :>.
My goal is a building-encouraging server that's completely free-to-play, where anyone is welcome, and it will [B]never[/B] have any donation ranks or pay for admin. I've had to restrict a few tools/entities due to spamming, annoyance or lag. Some things simply work better in single player, where your actions does not affect others.
I've made sure that there are always alternatives to the restrictions. For example, restricting the dynamite tool, but not wiremod explosives (nothing in wiremod is restricted). So basically, restricting the one that newbies are most likely to find first and think it would be funny to spam in someone's face.
Currently working on learning HTML, CSS and Lua so I can customize the server to improve it even further.
Have plans to expand the !motd page even further with some sandbox tutorials directed towards new garrysmod players. .. and once that's set up, perhaps some intermediate and advanced tutorials (wiremod, precision alignment, etc)
It's been really awesome so far, If you'd like to drop by the server that'd be neat :). suggestions for improvements are very welcome.

Really need some sort of anti-spam lua, but that also isn't über annoying and accidentally activated while building.
I don't know why all new players these days resort to spamming.
Just yesterday a new player asked me how to spawn things. I told him to hold Q and click what he wanted to spawn. First thing he did was to click the same prop icon like 30 times. .. What? is that the next generation of gamers :v?

Windows decided to run updates in the middle of the night without any notification and then forcing an auto-restart. seDirector only started as soon as I logged in to remote Desktop, therefor the server was down until I manually started it. Just did that a hour ago and it's up again, sorry.

That's the most interesting thing of all, I did, a few weeks ago, and never changed it. Windows Update still says "notify updates", as in, tell me, not install them.
Windows auto-update logic:
"you turned off windows auto-update. ...Let me auto-update that for you."
Btw, it's a bit ironic. Just a short time after this awesome opportunity, my processor decides that it's about to give in. Even though I just a month ago restored factory condition, CPU usage is already ridiculously high, and my computer has been "staggering" when doing the most simple task.
So.. I might not be able to play gmod.. I mean, it's worth a try, but.. last time I was lagging quite a lot :p.
I'll probably spend most of my time atm learning Lua, and looking to buy a new comp :>
