I was wondering how you guys would feel about an ingame application system? I've been thinking about it due to everyone in my server asking for staff. It will have a notification system and you can only send one every 24 hours to prevent spam. Also there will be a time you have to play on the server to apply (You'll get an error message saying: You have only been on the server for X time, you must have a minimum of Y to apply.) The way to accept applications would be to have a staff vote or have the owner make the final decision.
(Note: this will just be a nice project to work on my lua skills as of now and because my servers site is down as of now.)
To be honest I like the idea, but there would have to be a format to follow though.
Suggestion:
Add a button to view the player's steam profile
Of course there will be a format and a link to their profile. I'll continue to come up with more ideas to make it more useful and when I'm done I can release it.
Pros would be
-Allows anyone to apply
-Easy and doesn't require much effort on the user's part
-Keeps everything in a neat and sensible format
Cons would be
-Allows anyone to apply
-Since it's a private applications, you won't be able to get opinions/feedback on the player from other users or flush out any issues they may have

Well even with a site anyone could apply immediately by making an account. With this you have to have a certain amount of time.
As for voting it would be better to have a community vote then a staff vote but that seems a bit far fetched.

That's true. Like, we have a thing on our website in bold that states if you apply without hitting the requirements, you'll be permadenied and we still get plenty of people fucking that up so what can you do
Seems like a neat little project and something you'd learn a lot from, although I do still feel it's important to at least get some input from the community before making someone staff

Maybe a recommendations tab? You could recommend someone with a sort of like system (like Facepunch) and if they apply then they would be considered however if not then they won't be considered?
Sounds like a good idea, try making a web interface to check the reports, and such.

I can try but I can't promise. I'm only mediocre at lua. Probably less but I'll see what I can do.
I've never tried a web based panel.
It would be better if you made a addon like utime that will tell you how long you've played and then make it connect to a database and make the person connect with their steam account. So then make a hook that will only allowed people with a special amount of time create a thread. That would be cool but require more coding i think.
